Ten Years Later...

It was an ordinary day in the Chilean village. The people tended to their crops and their livestock while the children played in the fields. Whenever someone bumped into a neighbor, they would exchange a friendly wave followed by a greeting. Some even stopped and chattered with each other. It was peaceful.

Then, everything changed.

There were no warnings, no obvious signs that something was wrong. But it all started with a slight tremble. Only those with the keenest senses noticed it. No one paid any attention to it though. Then the small tremble turned into the ground gradually shaking and the shaking was gaining momentum. Finally, an experienced villager shrieked, "Terremoto!"

The earthquake felt like it lasted forever when in reality it only lasted a minute. One very long minute. When it was all over, the village was a mess. Nothing looked the same. The people who were able to walk were going around checking on their friends and family, if they could find them. Cries and wails echoed in the still air.

These were all silenced by the bone chilling hiss deep within the earth itself...
