Like a magnet, all eyes land on Dana who, even though this is what she wanted, still felt reserved. She blushed as boys whose faces she's never seen refused to tear their eyes away. She kept a steady pace as she tucked a curl of hair behind her ear. A small smile escaped her lips when she saw a few of her classmates gawking and even more started to look her way. This was the response she needed, but not the people she needed it from.
In an oversized green sweater with a short black skirt peeking from the sweater's bottom hem along with transparent black tights to top it off. It was out of her usual wardrobe and unlike her to leave the basic shirts and casual blue jeans at home. It was also unlike her to come up with the idea on how to catch a boy's attention.
"Holy crap!" Lana gasped from down the hall. She rushed over in quick small steps just to stop short of Dana and inhale the outfit she'd thought her best friend would never be caught dead in. "Where the freak did you get this? I've seen your entire closet a hundred times and never saw this. I totally would have stole it!"
Jessica came jogging down seconds later to join in on the commotion. "My eyes are not comprehending what they are even seeing."
Before Dana could answer any of the questions thrown at her, she felt a soft tap on her shoulder which caused her to turn around with caution. Her eyes landed on a dark skin boy who seemed a grade below her due to his softer appearance.
"Hey," he said shyly. "I'm... Dante. I know you probably never met me but I've noticed you for a while. Been wanting to ask if you'd... and it's fine if you don't-"
Within seconds, he was cut off by someone else tapping on his shoulder. Dana looked over him to see a man standing an inch or two taller than Dante. Yet this wasn't just any man, it was the man she'd been waiting for.
Dante turned to face Chandler and cleared his throat at the same time. "Your parents never told you to watch your eyes?" He had a smug smile on his face which caused Dante to completely step out of the way.
"My bad man. Didn't know she was yours! You both have a good day." Just like that, he was gone. All the attention Dana was just receiving was gone quicker than it came. In its presence, Chandler Beckett.
She turned to face Lana and Jessica who took three steps back once they caught on to why Chandler was still standing in her face.
"So... it's weird how you didn't correct him." He rolled his eyes playfully before they landed right back onto her. "But thanks for saving me... I guess."
"There's a huge difference between a boy and a man." He licked his lips slowly as his eyes went down her outfit and back to her face. "I actually wanted to talk to you in person about something. I've been trying to say it over text but I figured you've been busy."
Dana's mind immediately went to all the timers she started on her phone to avoid quick replies. She figured it would make her seem less desperate to speak with him. Little did she know that she was pushing him away slowly. "Yeah, I mean. I have bad service sometimes in my house but I'm really not busy. I just study... a lot." He chuckled at the nervous pitch in her voice.
"It's fine. Just wanted to know if you would be interested in coming over to play some video games. Do you game?" Dana could lie and say video games are her favorite when really they were the complete opposite. She also didn't want to miss the opportunity of spending time with her crush and saying anything but yes could ruin her chance of a lifetime.
"Yes," she squeaked.
"Cool. It's a small thing. Just a couple of friends. You can bring yours if you want. Either way it'll be a good time. But see you then."
