The desert wind whipped sand against the opulent haveli walls, carrying the scent of jasmine from the royal gardens. Inside, Princess Amara paced, her silk dupatta catching the flickering lamplight. Her reflection in the ornately carved mirror held a stranger – a woman with eyes that mirrored the approaching storm.Today was the day of the Rajya Sabha's decree. Amara, the only heir to the besieged kingdom of Jaisalmer, was to be married to Vikramaditya Singh, the ruthless Maharaja of the neighboring land, Marwar.
This wasn't a union born of love or alliance. It was a desperate bargain. Marwar's superior forces had Jaisalmer in a chokehold, its once-vibrant fields parched and its people starving. The Rajya Sabha, the council of advisors, had seen no other option.
Amara, however, was not one to surrender her spirit. She had trained in swordsmanship since childhood, a secret rebellion against the traditional princess mold. Now, her rebellious spirit burned with a fierce resolve.
A soft knock startled her. It was Rani Padmavati, her mother, her usually radiant face etched with worry. Rani Padmavati, a woman of quiet strength, had always encouraged Amara's independence.
"Amara," her mother said, her voice thick with emotion. "They are waiting for you."
Amara took a deep breath, straightening her regal posture. "Let them wait, Rani Maa," she said, her voice firm. "The Rani of Jaisalmer does not bend to coercion."
The first chapter ends here, wanting to know more about Amara's plan, Vikramaditya Singh, and how this forced marriage will unfold.
