In the heart of the forest where whispers from fairies danced among the leaves.

The boy paused; his legs trembling barely able to hold his weight, his breath ragged from endless running.

Analie, the fairy with eyes like a frozen river, hovered beside him, her delicate crystal-like wings shimmering from sunlight coming down through the canopy.

"Your name is Mikkel," she repeated softly, as if testing the weight of each syllable. "Why do you run, Mikkel?"

Mikkel looked at the fairy, his legs buckling beneath him, his knees falling upon the snowy ground, her presence melting the turmoil within him.

His voice, tinged with weariness and a hint of fear, finally found its way through the knots in his throat. "They. They're chasing me."

Analie's expression softened with empathy. "Who are they, Mikkel? Who is chasing you?"

A shiver passed through him the reason as to why he's running clawing at his thoughts. "The people of the village."

Ah.

'So that's what happened. Those humans hate anything of Magic.' Analie thought.

Mikkel shivered, his eyes reflecting his terror.

"You're special aren't you, Mikkel?" She inquired, sympathy radiating from her.

His eyes widen in fear.

"I- I didn't mean to hurt anyone! I swear!" He cried; tears falling from his eyes only to freeze before hitting the ground.

Analie's eyes widened.

Ah, she knows who he is now.

She smiled and flew up to the boys face.

"It's alright, darling." She whispered, before pressing a kiss to his forehead, a blue glow began to spread across the boys face; the boys eyes shined.

"This'll protect you for a little while, dear. Stay safe." She beamed. Her smile; bright like crystals.

As they rested amidst the ancient trees, the forest around them seemed to whisper secrets of resilience and courage.

The boy's eyes filled with tears again.

"Thank you. Thank you!" He sniffled. His arms coming up to hide his face.

Then he heard the crunch of snow being stepped on. He stiffened alerting Analie.

Her face turned side to side before eventually, spotting a man shuffling through the forest.

She turned to the boy and said one last thing.

"Run."

And so. The boy stood up and began to run once more.

_________

He was running again. He didn't want to run.

He wanted to rest. He wanted to go home.

But he can't. And it's his fault.

The one time he decided to practice, they caught himhe's sorry he's so sorry he didn't mean to hurt her-

He took a deep breath and pushed it away. He can think about it later-

His feet were being cushioned by the snow; he was leaving so many footprints they're going to find him-

His foot got caught on something. And, he fell, a strangled yell coming from his throat.

Ah. They heard that, didn't they?

Okay. Okay! He needs to get up right now-

He can't move. He can't move. He can't move.

Ah that's it. His foot got caught on a root.

He's gonna die, isn't he?

He can already hear them. Why. Why is he such an idiot.

Okay. Calm down. First things first. Get your foot out.

He turned and tried to grab onto the root with his hands and pulled-

His boot came off.

Now he had another choice, try to get his boot free or leave it there and run.

It seems like someone else decided that when he turned his head and saw.

Ah there's someone right beside him.

His legs moved without thinking and he began to sprint.

He can hear the man shouting for his friends. Oh no.

Okay let's look around. To his left there's a frozen lake. To his right there's more forest. The lake is too open. Everyone will see him- he can hide in the forest. Okay, he's decided he's going to turn right.

As he begins to turn right. He sees another man.

Ah, he is so screwed.

And so he turns around and begins to run onto the frozen lake.

His one boot slipping and causing him to slide across the lake.

Oh. The ice is starting to crack.

That's not good.

And before he can think he's under.

It's. So cold.

He's probably going to die, huh.

His eyes are fluttering and all he can think of, is that fairy... He's sorry. He didn't mean to die.

And in the darkness of the frozen lake, he closes his eyes just as a beautiful glow starts to shine from his forehead.
