Author's POV: ✯
You sat in silence, your fingers fidgeting as you waited—no, demanded—the explanation they owed you. The room was tense, quiet enough to hear the faint ticking of the wall clock. You weren't sure how long you'd been stuck here, but your patience was starting to fray.
Heeseung walked in, casually slipping his hands into the pockets of his coat, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "Still waiting, huh?" he said, his tone light but mocking. You stiffened but said nothing.
Not long after, Sunghoon entered with a small bottle of water, placing it on the table beside you. He didn't say anything right away, just glanced at you before taking a seat across the room. The silence lingered again, heavy and uncomfortable.
"Start talking," you finally spoke, your voice low but firm. "Why am I here?"
Sunghoon leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "We told you already," he said calmly. "Your father made a deal. One he couldn't keep. And now... you're the payment."
You blinked, trying to process the words. "That's ridiculous."
Heeseung chuckled. "Is it? Then explain this." He reached into his coat and pulled out a folded paper, tossing it onto the table in front of you. It slid across the surface before stopping just inches away from your hand.
You hesitated before picking it up. The moment your eyes scanned the contents, a chill crept down your spine.
It was a legal contract.
Your name was there. So was your father's. The terms were detailed and unmistakably real—your father had transferred the responsibility of his debt to you. The signature at the bottom was unmistakably his.
You stared at it, the paper trembling in your hands. "This has to be forged," you whispered.
Heeseung leaned back against the wall, arms crossed. "You think we'd go through all this trouble over a forgery?"
"Why didn't he tell me?" you asked, voice cracking. "Why didn't he try to reach me?"
There was no answer. Sunghoon just looked at you, his expression unreadable.
Tears stung your eyes before you could stop them. The weight of betrayal crushed down on you like never before. You wiped your own tears away quickly, trying to pull yourself together.
"What do you even want from me?" you asked, looking between the two of them.
Sunghoon sighed, like this conversation was just as frustrating for him. "Nothing complicated. You'll stay here, follow a few rules, and we'll consider the debt... under control."
"You make it sound like I have a choice," you snapped.
"You don't," Heeseung said simply.
You stood up abruptly, the contract still in your hand. "So what, I'm your prisoner now? Some kind of personal servant?"
Sunghoon raised an eyebrow. "Think of it more like... collateral. As long as you're here, your father's mistake doesn't cost him his life."
You were stunned. "You threatened him?"
"No," Heeseung replied, "we gave him an option. He chose you."
You didn't know whether to laugh, cry, or scream. Your knees felt weak, but you forced yourself to stand tall.
"How long do I have to stay here?" you asked.
Neither of them responded right away. Sunghoon glanced at Heeseung, who gave a small shrug.
"Until the debt is cleared," Sunghoon finally said. "And no—before you ask—we don't mean in money."
Your stomach turned. "Then how?"
"You'll help us when we need it. Follow instructions. Keep your mouth shut," Heeseung said plainly.
You clenched your jaw. "That's not helping. That's control."
"Call it what you want," Sunghoon replied. "But we're not letting you go anytime soon."
You looked at them, truly looked—and for the first time, realized that these weren't just two guys with too much power. They were dangerous, calculated, and prepared. You weren't here by accident. You were leverage. A pawn.
And pawns rarely get to choose their moves.
You backed away slowly until your legs hit the edge of the bed. You sat down, your mind spinning. All of this was happening too fast.
As Sunghoon stood to leave, he paused by the door and glanced back. "Try to rest. You'll need your strength."
He closed the door behind him, and this time, you heard the soft click of the lock.
You were alone. And trapped.
