the silent child

I was the silent child,
The one who didn't bother anyone in class.
I was the perfect student,
The one we put next to the agitated child to calm him down.
However, no teacher rewarded me.
When this restless child was calm one day,
He had "put a lot of effort" into his assessment,
While I picked up the "not participating enough"
One day my math teacher looked me in the eyes
"You look dead," she said.
And that killed me, because I was the student who never bothered the teachers,
But maybe I would have done better to be the one who speaks loudly
Maybe then people would have treated me as I deserved.
