IN ATTEMPT to keep the three drugged teenagers away from any Russian contact, Dustin and Erica strictly placed them in a crowded cinema.
"Dude, these seats blow." Steve complained, as he stuffed his mouth with popcorn.
"Then don't watch the movie." Dustin retorted in frustration.
Robin shot back, "We wanna watch it."
"Then watch it!" Dustin raised his voice, before being shushed by the group of people behind them, causing the two kids to find their seats across the cinema room from the three.
Bailey sat in between Steve and Robin, blaming the drugs for how overwhelmed she was. It felt like all of her senses were being used at once, on an extreme scale; she could hear the coughs, opening of popcorn bags, and people sniffing from across the cinema room. It didn't help help that she was hyper-aware of Robin's knee touching hers as they sat down.
Robin stared up at the screen, as she whispered, "I don't get what's happening."
Steve agreed, "Me neither—"
"I'm getting a drink." Bailey interrupted, standing up quickly and exiting the cinema doors. Steve and Robin followed behind her, unaware at the hint of Bailey wanting to be alone.
Bailey sipped at the water fountain outside the cinema, leaning all of her weight into the metal machine as she exhaled, "That is amazing."
"I wasn't totally focused in there or anything, but I'm pretty that mom was trying to bang her son." Robin exclaimed, her voice slurring.
Steve frowned, "Wait, the hot chick was Alex's mom? But they're the same age."
"No, he went back in time." Bailey corrected, as she wiped the water away from dripping off her chin and taking a few steps away from the fountain. She starred up at the ceiling, the blue lights twinkling and swirling as her head tilted.
Steve disagreed, "Then, why is it called back to the future?"
"Because he's in the past." Robin explained, "So, the future is actually the present, which is his time."
"This ceiling is... pretty." Bailey blurted out, as she walked in a circle to try and make out of the ceiling was moving.
Robin joined her, with a chuckle that seemed to echo in slow motion in Bailey's head. She smiled, "Wow."
After a while of spinning in circles, Bailey found herself in the toilet- literally- her face dangling into the toilet as she vomited up a watery liquid that splashed into the toilet water.
Bailey was the first to stop being sick, sitting on the toilet floor with her back leant against the cubicle wall. She blocked out Steve and Robin's gags and hurls, as she sat in silence.
Something was wrong. She couldn't get that out of worry out of her stomach, no matter how much she vomited it up. Something was wrong with her.
"The ceiling's stopped spinning for me." Robin's voice came from the cubicle next to hers.
"You think we've puked it all up?" Steve replied, "Ask me a question."
"Okay." Robin agreed hesitantly, "Have you... ever been in love?"
"Yep. I dated Nancy Wheeler in sophomore year. But, I found someone better for me..." Steve replied, and Bailey could see the smile on his face in her head, "Bailey Hopper."
The pit in her stomach grew, as she rested her head in her hands. An awkward silence overcame them, almost like Bailey was meant to answer the question too- but she didn't.
Bailey doubted that love was even real.
Steve asked curiously, "Bails, are you alright in there?"
"Yeah." She muttered quietly.
Robin questioned, as she slid underneath the cubicle wall and sat opposite the girl, "Have you ever been in love, Bailey?"
Bailey shook her head to say 'no'.
"Yeah." Bailey replied out loud to Steve could hear, "A year together, right Harrington?"
Steve chuckled from the cubicle next to hers, as Bailey looked at Robin in complete sadness and confusion. Steve asked, "Have you ever been in love, Robin?"
Robin sighed, "Do you know what I said about me being jealous? It isn't because I had a crush on you, Steve. It's because... she wouldn't stop staring at you."
Steve guessed, "Mrs Click?"
"No." Robin let out a small chuckle.
"Bailey?" Steve guessed again.
Bailey looked at Robin in confusion, as the girl nodded slowly. Robin was nodding. Bailey's expression softened in realisation.
Robin lied, "Tammy Thompson." She looked at Bailey, and they both knew that Robin was talking about her. She continued, "I wanted her to look at me. But... she couldn't pull her eyes away from you and your stupid hair. And I didn't understand, so I would go home and scream into my pillow."
It was Steve's turn to slide underneath the cubicle, meeting with Robin and Bailey. Steve questioned curiously, "But, Tammy Thompson's a girl?"
"Steve." Robin whispered, her eyes finally pulling away from Bailey.
"Oh." Steve replied in realisation.
Robin nodded shamefully, "Oh."
Steve zoned out, staring at the wall in silence, as Robin looked at Bailey again. A silent tear fell down Bailey's cheek, as she wiped it away quickly and curled her knees into her chest.
Bailey knew.
And so did Robin.
