She was dead.
Amalia was dead.
How could she be here? It's not possible, surely.
Alaric couldn't believe his eyes. Amalia was stood before him. He believed her to be gone, died beside her mother.
She just looked at him, an unreadable expression on her face. After 19 years of not knowing her father, she didn't know how to react when she finally saw him.
"It's you.." he says.
She just nods silently
"You're supposed to be dead.."
A look of confusion flashes across her features.
"Dead?"He looks at her, looking over her features. She looked just like how he imagined she would. "I thought you were dead, Amalia. I assumed you were gone when your mother passed.."
She huffs out a laugh, disbelief clear as day in her expression. "My mother is fine. She isn't dead."
Alaric looks up at her with a look of desperation and confusion crossed his face.
"But I thought-"
"You clearly thought wrong." she raised her eyebrow at him before going quiet for a minute. "Where have you been my entire life?"
"I thought you were dead."
"Before that."
He was silent, unsure how to navigate this conversation. "Your mother thought it was best if I didn't see you"
"Because I'm the result of an affair? My mother cheated on her boyfriend with you so you two hid me away like a dirty secret. I was a child but all I am to you is proof of the betrayal you two committed."
The hurt she felt was evident in her voice.
Alaric didn't know how to respond, he wasn't expecting her to be so.. fiery. He expected her to be hurt but the anger on her face shook him up.
"She was just trying to protect you-"
"You were protecting yourselves. You don't care about me, you never did. You should've fought for me, Alaric. But it no longer matters, you and Isobel mean nothing to me anymore."
Hearing Isobel's name sent a pang of pain through his chest. Isobel Flemming, the woman he used to love with all his heart. The woman that forced him to keep his child hidden away from the world. The woman that took his little girl away and left her other children to be raised by someone else. The woman he believed to be dead.
"I'm sorry, Amalia. I never want to leave you."
"But you did."
He took a deep breath as he looked down in shame. She was right. He did leave her, he couldn't defend himself when it was nothing but the truth.
"I'm sorry, Amalia. I wanted to stay with you but she took you away and then I thought you were dead. I never meant to hurt you."
She tried to appear strong and untouchable, but her eyes betrayed her true feelings. She just wanted her father. She didn't want to hate him, but she had to. She couldn't forgive him, that would make her weak.
"You left me with her. You are the worst father I could've had."
She turned around to walk away, taking Alaric's heart with her. His little girl hates him and there is nothing he could do to make it up to her.
He wanted to protest against her leaving but he knows he has no right to tell her what to do. He lost that right the second he abandoned her.
She walked away, trying to hold herself together. She wanted to meet him. She hoped they would just go straight into a loving father daughter relationship like she always wanted. However, the second she saw his face, the feelings of betrayal and anger came flooding back and drowned any possibility of instant forgiveness she could've given him.
As she walked out of the grill, she bumped into a girl who looked around her age. She quickly apologised, before she recognised her.
Katherine Pierce.
She felt anger build up inside her. Why was she here? She must've been sent by Isobel to make her come home.
No. She wasn't going home. Not this time.
"Get away from me"
She glared daggers into Katherine. Amalia had enough of the control Isobel had over her. Katherine started to cough as something was stopping her from breathing.
Amalia's hand started to rise as Katherine clutched her head as she fell to the floor as an excruciating pain split through her head.
"You can tell her I'm not leaving, Katherine."
She snapped. Katherine looked at her with confusion and shock through the pain.
"I'm.. not.. Katherine-"
Amalia laughed in annoyance.
"Sure. She sent you, didn't she?"
Katherine shook her head. Her hair looked different, very straight. Her style was new and she lacked the usual coldness that Katherine carried around like a trophy.
"I'm- Elena-"
Amalia looked confused and distrustful before she released 'Katherine' from her magic hold. 'Katherine' fell to her knees as she gasped for air, her lungs slowly filling up with oxygen once more.
"You are Elena?"
She had heard much about this girl a lot from her mother.
If she was telling the truth.. this was her half sister.

creator notes:DUN DUN DUN!! surprise! Amalia is Elena's half sister and also a witch. The Petrova bloodline are descended from travellers and Amalia had activated her witch side. The family reunion was more extended than she thought 🤪
