Peter Parker walked quickly up the stairs of The Sanctum Sanctorum. He had gotten the urgent message from Dr. Strange earlier that day. Ever since showing his true, or instead reminding, his true identity to the Avengers, Peter found himself in the middle of a new threat that, if it weren't for his own run-in with the multiverse, Peter would feel unqualified to do anything. However, this message showed a certain amount of trust that Dr. Strange had in Peter, so he knew that whatever was about to be asked of him, he would do it.
Peter entered the large area at the top of the stairs. He took a second to be fascinated by all the magical objects, and he wished he could figure out how they worked. After his little moment, Peter walked up to Strange, who was looking out the large circle window.
"Uh, hello, sir," Peter said with a hint of nervousness. Looking at Strange's face, a sense of doom and heaviness could be sensed in the room coming from Strange. "Sir... is everything all right?"
"I wish it were Peter," Strange sighed. He turned to look at Peter. "But unfortunately, things are very, very wrong." Strange gestured to two chairs that were by a large bookcase. The two sat down, and Strange began to explain. "The multiverse is in grave danger, Peter. We are trying to fight it, but there are powers at play that we don't yet have the tools to fight back properly.""What sort of powers," Peter asked. He now understood the concern that Strange was giving off when Peter entered the room.
"That," Strange said, "is the scary part. We don't exactly know. All we know is that they are astronomically powerful, and when it is ready, it will put the entire multiverse at risk. Infinite earth could suffer incursions or worse."
An incursion. Peter had heard the doctor mention those on a separate occasion. And by the sound of them, they were terrible. And now Strange is mentioning the possibility of something even worse happening. Great... "What can we do?" Peter questioned. "There has to be something that can be done to stop this from happening."
"There is one thing," Dr. Strange began. "It is why I called you here."
Peter practically sat on the edge of his seat in anticipation.
"There is a girl in another universe who could be the key to finding out what threatens the multiverse and how to stop it. I need you to go and recruit her. Get her to come to this universe and help us stop this."
This sounded easy, Peter began to think. Who wouldn't want to come and help save the multiverse...
"It won't be as easy as you are thinking," Strange said as if reading Peter's mind. "Her world is in turmoil, and as she is its prime protector, she may not want to leave so easily."
Well, there goes the simplicity of it all. "Why send me of all people," Peter asked. The question was seemingly an obvious one. Many other, more experienced Avengers could probably have a better chance of recruiting her.
A smile appeared on Strange's face. "Because she is also Spiderman."
...
With a bag full of clothes and supplies and his suit on except for the mask, Peter stood with Dr. Strange and America Chavez. Strange had given him a device that would allow a portable that worked like FaceTime so that he and Peter could stay in touch. Peter had the before-mission jitters more than usual. He knew being in unknown terrain for the first time since he was in space would be dangerous. And even that didn't end well for him. But the weight of what this mission meant pushed him to go forward with it. And he knew Strange was also right that he would have the best chance as a fellow Spiderman to recruit the girl they needed. Peter gave a nod to Strange, who looked at America. America cracked her knuckles with a smile, then made a punching motion. A star-shaped portal appeared, and the other side looked like a forest.
"This is a forest just outside of a major town. You should start your search there for when she appears as Spiderman," Strange said.
Peter acknowledged Strange and thanked America. He took one more deep breath and then stepped through the portal.
