Carrie and Abby were sitting down on a hill and looking at the stars together. Despite her best efforts, Carrie couldn't stop herself from occasionally glancing over at Abby. She wanted to question about her new friend's lack of wings but was worried about being perceived as rude. This time, Abby caught her looking. "You're wondering why I have no wings, aren't you? Everyone does." Abby spoke. Carrie felt embarrassed that she had been caught staring but nodded, curiosity overwhelming her thoughts. "I was born without them" Abby responded plainly. This surprised Carrie, it was rare for a baby to be born without wings, especially now in days. "So, you're one of the rare ones" Carrie said. "I wouldn't consider it rare, unlucky maybe" Abby said, glancing away from her. Unlucky? This word resonated with Carrie for a bit before she spoke. "How so?" she asked. "People treated me differently for not having wings. I've been bullied practically my whole life" Abby said, her eyes wandering back up to the sky to look at the stars once more. Carrie frowned upon hearing Abby's reasoning and could only respond with an "I'm sorry" before she also turned her attention back to the stars. "As cruel as it is, I'm used to it," Abby started "You're the first person I've met who didn't point it out immediately as if I had no idea. You treated me like a normal person...thank you, Carrie". Abby had turned and was now looking at Carrie. Carrie could mumble a "you're welcome" before breaking away from Abby's gaze. She didn't know how or why but she couldn't make eye contact with Abby without her face getting hot. She had never felt like this before. Was she getting sick? She wasn't sure about what she should do. Abby noticed Carrie's refusal to make eye contact with her, so she spoke up, "you good?". Carrie quickly got pulled out of her thoughts by Abby's voice. "Yeah, I think I'm getting sick or something..." she responded. Abby noticed the pink tint covering Carrie's face "you sure?". Her face, now feeling red hot, only grew more pink as Abby spoke to her. Carrie responded after a short moment of silence. "Mhm, must be a cold or something. Probably caught it from someone at school". Abby wasn't fully convinced by Carrie's sudden sickness but it's obvious that she wasn't going to get the real answer from trying to pry further. "Alright," Abby finally said "whatever you say".
