I trudged into ROA High, still half-asleep and clutching a thermos of lukewarm coffee. I weaved through and dodged groups of gossiping students and a rogue flying soccer ball as I made my way to my locker. Just as I was about to open it, a chorus of giggles erupted from a group of cheerleaders nearby, their shrieking laughter causing me to frown at their annoying, high-pitched voices.

"What's going on?" I asked Lotario, who suddenly appeared at my side in an instant. Lotario is my best friend and, on most days, doesn't interact with gossip, but apparently today was different.

Lotario practically vibrated with excitement. "ROA's star baseball player, Lon Sunog, is back!"

"Lon who?" I asked, blinking in confusion while fumbling with my locker combination.

Lotario gaped at me as if I had just asked who invented the internet. "Lon Sunog! The mysterious, super-hot baseball player who disappeared last semester?! You know, the one with the dreamy eyes, abs you could grate cheese on, and the tragic backstory?"

I scratched my head. "Oh, right. Him. What's the big deal?"

Before Lotario could respond, a wave of students parted like the Red Sea, and there he was—Lon Sunog. He walked down the hall with a swagger that seemed to be in slow motion, his baseball jacket slung casually over one shoulder. His dark hair was perfectly tousled, his eyes sparkled with mischief, and he radiated an aura of effortless cool.

As Lon sauntered past, the hallway fell silent. Girls (and a few guys) swooned, and the air filled with the sound of collective sighs. I rolled my eyes, but I couldn't help but be a bit curious. What was so special about this guy?

--time skip or whatever--

My curiosity only grew when, during gym class, Coach Xane made an announcement. "Alright, team! We have a special student rejoining us today. Meet Lon Sunog."

The doors to the gym swung open dramatically (probably greased for just this occasion), and Lon strolled in, looking like he had just stepped off the set of a teen drama. The room fell silent and then erupted in whispers and giggles.

Coach Xane continued, "You're paired with Lon for drills today."

I sighed. "Of course I am," I muttered, making my way over to Lon.

"Hey," Lon said, flashing that killer smile. "Ready to show me the ropes?"

"Sure, Sunog," I replied, trying to sound nonchalant. "Let's see if you can actually live up to the hype."

As it turned out, Lon was not only a decent baseball player but also hilariously bad at following simple instructions. During batting practice, he managed to hit the ball directly into the coach's coffee mug, spill the team's water cooler, and somehow end up tangled in the netting of the batting cage.

"Impressive," I said dryly, helping Lon out of the net.

Lon laughed, brushing himself off. "Hey, it's all part of my charm."

I snorted. "Yeah, if by charm you mean being a walking disaster."

--yeah, another time skip--

Despite his clumsiness, Lon was incredibly kind and had a knack for making me laugh. Over the next few weeks, I found myself looking forward to baseball practice, not for the sport but for Lon's antics. Whether he was slipping on stray sunflower seeds or accidentally launching baseballs into the wrong field, there was never a dull moment.

One day, after a particularly gruelling practice, Lon cornered me at my locker. "Hey, Y/N can we talk?"

"Uh, sure," I replied, glancing around. "What's up?"

Lon took a deep breath, looking unusually serious. "I have something I need to tell you."

My heart raced. Was this it? A love confession? Here? Now? My mind was running wild.

Before I could respond, Lon stepped closer, effectively trapping me against the lockers. His arm shot out, and he leaned in, trapping me between his body and my locker door. My breath caught in my throat.

"I.... really like your shoelaces," Lon said, his face deadpan.

What?

Maybe I said that out loud because Lon chuckled while stepping back. "You should see your face right now!" he said while he wiped tears of laughter from his eyes. "But seriously, I wanted to ask if you'd come to my next game. It'd mean a lot to me."

I let out a breath. I didn't realise I was holding, and I laughed, hoping that my hot face was starting to cool down. "You're ridiculous, Sunog. But sure, I'll be there."

--yippee i have time powers--

I showed up at Lon's next game, feeling a mix of excitement and trepidation. The bleachers were packed with students, and the atmosphere was electric. I spotted Lotario waving frantically from the front row and made my way over.

"Glad you could make it!" Lotario shouted over the noise. "This is going to be epic!"

Lon was already on the field, warming up with his teammates. He caught my eye and gave me a small, nervous wave. I waved back, feeling a strange flutter in my chest.

The game was intense, with both teams playing at their best. Lon was a force to be reckoned with, hitting home runs and making impossible catches. I found myself cheering louder than I ever had before, caught up in the excitement.

In the final inning, with the score tied, Lon stepped up to bat. The tension was palpable as the pitcher wound up and threw. Lon swung with all his might, and the ball soared through the air, heading straight for the outfield fence. The crowd held its breath as the ball cleared the fence, securing the victory for ROA High.

The stands erupted in cheers as Lon rounded the bases, grinning from ear to ear. He was immediately mobbed by his teammates, but he broke away and made a beeline for me.

"We did it!" Lon shouted, breathless and beaming.

"Yeah, you did," I said, feeling a surge of pride.

Lon hesitated for a moment, then pulled me into a tight hug. "Thanks for being here," he whispered.

I hugged him back, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. "Anytime, Sunog. Anytime."

As we pulled away, Lon gave me a lopsided grin. "So, what do you say we celebrate? How about we grab something to eat? My treat. Think of it as a date." He smiled slyly.

I burst out laughing, shaking my head. "You're impossible."

"And you love it," Lon said, winking.

I rolled my eyes, but I couldn't help but smile.
