He should be here any minute now. Jeongin paces back and forth in his bedroom, as his parents look at the pictures they have hung up. It's a variety of photos, many from college years.
Jeongin didn't bother calling Seungmin's phone, if he did, it'd go straight to voicemail. He let out a sigh, he can't keep his parents cooped up like this forever.
Kim Seungmin where are you?
After a long mental break, Jeongin walks out.
"Mom, dad, come sit down, I'll get the food ready." Jeongin doesn't look at them, it'll be obvious he's bluffing. "Seungmin texted me, he has a problem... at work."
Shit. Jeongin mentally face palmed, Seungmin isn't even working! Why would Jeongin lie about that.
"Hm... where does he work?" Jeongins dad asks.
"Some corporate job y'know, we like to prioritize our feelings before our jobs, we barely talk about his work." Jeongin simply says, pulling out cups to fill water with.
"Sounds busy... I get it, we can always wait, I mean, this was a bad time wasn't it?" His mom says inflicting more pain on herself than Jeongin.
"Mom, I offered, you guys are free to come over whenever, it just so happens also today Seungmin's having some issues at work." Jeongin sighed, he can't keep dragging it on anymore.
"Say... how much money does his job make? This sure is a nice place." His dad says as he gandered at the walls... for some reason.
"I already said he doesn't talk much about his job, why should I care how much he's making. We have a roof over our head with fresh water and food, Dad..." Jeongin sets down the main course and traveled back to grab tinier side dishes. Gosh, it was hell to make all of this alone. All because of you Kim Seungmin...
"Hey, there's my boy!" Jeongin's dad yells out, the door cracks opening showing Seungmin in a white shirt with baggy jeans. He rushes over to shake Seungmins hand.
My boy, that word bleeds into Jeongin's ears. Like hell he is. He doesn't actually have a job, why does he matter more to you, than your actual son?
Seungmin stares at Jeongin with blown eyes, holding onto his fathers hand. "Oh. Oh, hello, my goodness, sorry, I'm not too late am I?" Seungmin suddenly smiles, putting on an act.
Jeongin scoffs, "No way, come here honey, let's change out of your work clothes." He bats his eyelashes for effect and sweetly pats the side of his face
Work clothes my ass, Seungmin glares at Jeongin. He's gnawing at his leg instead of pulling it. Seungmin leans over to briefly hug Jeongin's mother. Jeongin drags him away to the bedroom.
Someone had left the window open, all the cold air from the fall weather making Seungmin shiver.
"Where the fuck have you been!" Jeongin whisper-shouts. His hands shoot up, Seungmin flinches.
"Shit..." He sighs, "I didn't mean to be out so late, Jinwoo and I were catching up, how could you fucking blame me?"
"Yes I can, Seungmin, wear this." Jeongin shoves a pair of new clothes onto his chest and walks out. "You might want to put eye drops in too, not like it'll help."
Well... that went... I guess well. Seungmin watches Jeongin regain his cool and smile in front of his parents, just after he spat at Seungmin's feet.
--
It was silent. Painfully, silent. Seungmin speaks up, finally.
"How was your break, mom and dad? Was it like how you wanted it to be?" He wipes his face with a napkin, and smiled.
"Oh! Yes, it was amazing, ugh of course you'd remember to ask me, unlike Jeongin." His mother giggles, Seungmin glances at Jeongin. His head was hanging low, avoiding eye contact from anyone.
She continues, smiling gleefully, "You know, I wish you were my son, which... I mean you will be right? You guys are planning on getting married right?"
"...Uh, whenever-" Seungmin starts, trying to be polite as he can be, but Jeongin interrupts him.
"Yes, mom, you won't have to worry." Jeongin responds, not looking up.
Seungmin sinks into his seat, does he have to be this way with his own parents? Especially in front of him? Seungmin doesn't even want to ask him what he said. He can't, matter of a fact, he'll stubbornly deny it and move on.
"Ooh! I'm so happy, for the both of you guys, seriously." She reached out to touch their hands briefly, grinning ear to ear.
"Hey, Seungmin, when is it I meet your father?" Jeongin's dad says, cutting the happy atmosphere.
Father.
Right, Seungmin had a father, sadly... He was about to open his mouth before Jeongin cut in again.
"Dad." Jeongin shoots up, his chair screeching against the laminated wood floors. "Leave. Mom, and dad, leave right now."
"Jeongin... what?" His mom says, taken aback as she clutches her chest in shock.
"Leave right goddamn now!!" He repeats, snapping. His tone so disrespectful and hurtful, his parents stare up at him in a daze.
"I-- Jeongin, Jeongin, baby look at me... calm down." Seungmin shoots up and grabs him by the shoulders, rubbing his thumb back and forth. Jeongin was pissed, maybe because Seungmin was still carrying the act, but he saw the anger light up in his eyes once he touched him.
"Calm down?! I'm defending your ass!" Jeongin shoved Seungmin out of the way, and walks towards his parents, "You two need to leave, now. I don't care, you guys have been treating me horribly ever since high school, and now you guys are here, kissing Seungmin's shoes clean. How come I never got this treatment? Huh? How come you never fucking loved me!!!"
Seungmin watches the world shatter a bit, witnessing the one he loves, break. His mother clasps her hand over her mouth, his father glaring harshly at the both of them.
"Honey... how long have you felt this way?" Jeongin's mom lends out a hand to touch his face, but Jeongin intercepted it.
"Please. Leave." He doesn't dare look them in the eye, because he knows, he'll see his reflection in his fathers eyes. He will see that forever in his life he is, and was, a disappointment.
No more words were exchanged, they left, no questions asked. The air still had lingering tension, and Seungmin was still shocked, maybe he shouldn't be.
"Jeongin." He says, barely a noise, more like a mangled squeak.
"Oh my god." Jeongin whispers, running towards Seungmin. "Why. Why did I do that." His face falls into his palms, small sobs were almost audible, but it was obvious he was crying due to his shoulders shaking.
"It's okay, Jeongin, it's okay, you have me." Seungmin pulls him into a hug, tightly holding him in an embrace so he wouldn't leave him. At least, wouldn't leave him like how Seungmin was doing. He wanted to be there for Jeongin, seriously, but why couldn't he? What was so hard about holding your lover in a tight hold, whispering mindless thoughts and sweet nothings.
"Do I? You didn't even come home on time." Jeongin sniffles, his face buried into Seungmins shoulder.
"I know, I messed up there, but I want you to know, I will go through everything with you, by your side. I want to see you happy, because it'll make me happy."
Jeongin looked up at him, "I know you're lying."
Seungmin's resting face falls into confusion, more like hurt. Why did it feel like he was internally bleeding? Why did it feel like... someone he trusted so much, stabbed him in the back.
"Jeongin, what?"
"You're lying, because you would have known my parents were going to be here, you would have known I was jealous of your relationship with my parents, you would have known I lied about your job, you would have known I would loose a limb for you, but I feel like you wouldn't even reciprocate." Jeongin doesn't remove his grip though, which confuses Seungmin's brain.
Seungmin sighs, "Sit down, we need to talk."
"Talk about what?" Jeongin pulls away, shunning his stuffy red eyes, "There's nothing I want to talk to you about."
