Sahar rushed out of the elevator, running through the corridor and towards her apartment. Her finger relentlessly rang the doorbell and she heaved a sigh of relief when her ammi opened the door.

"Sabr kar lo thoda."

(Have some patience.)

Her ammi rolled her eyes at her daughter's impatient form. Sahar gave her a sheepish smile, greeting her with a salam and a hug.

"Call aaya tha?"

(Did someone call?)

She questioned without beating around the bush.

Rumaisa sighed and forcefully ushered her daughter inside the house.

"Take a shower and have your lunch"

Rumaisa's words were not a suggestion. Sahar gave a pout to her ammi but nonetheless did as she was told.

Sahar changed into a comfortable pair of oversized tee and loose pants. She tied her hair in a bun and jumped beside her ammi who was sitting on the sofa in the living room, looking through her phone.

Rumaisa glared at her daughter, silently asking her to behave.

"Bataye na! Call aayi thi?"

(Tell me! Did someone call?)

"Ji. Yeh lo, baat kar lo."

(Yes. Take this, talk now.)

Grinning in utter excitement, Sahar connected the call, waiting for Aashna to pick up.

It had become a new normal for Sahar to FaceTime her cousins almost everyday. To make herself feel closer to them, even with the amount of distance between them, she remained connected to her family through calls and texts.

Her awkwardness over phone calls deteriorated once she realised that for a long time now, this would serve as the means of communication for them.

Two years had flown by like a slow and steady clock ticking at its own pace. She didn't urge it to move faster, instead, she tried her best to settle into her new reality.

She had graduated a month back with bachelors in law and was currently giving her mind some time to recover before looking into a higher course.

Her days were going in utter peace when one fine morning she received a call from Aashna who dropped an unexpected news into her drama-free life.

Her Amir bhai was getting engaged!

And today was the event. Aashna had promised her that she'd do a video call, showing her every detail of the grand event.

"Ek minute!"

(One minute!)

Sahar couldn't hold back her grin even when her mother gave her a side eye. She watched as Aashna reprimanded the worker for something, and came back to show her face on the video call.
