I can still see it all, see the blood pooled around her body as Alexie moves to pull me away from her. I can hear her too; hear her cackling like a little devil and hear her snide but somewhat true statements about may things in society.
Alexie attempts to pull me away but I won't leave her body here to rot and be swarmed with insects and rubbish. "I want to take her body." I have no clue what emotion laces my voice or what emotion is prominent on my face. I didn't cry, not because I didn't care about her, simply because crying wouldn't bring her back.
"I'll arrange for something," as he speaks, I look up to him and find his face passive. I have no idea how he got here, have no idea if he's the cause of this and it all disturbs me but in this moment, all I do is nod to him because I can't imagine what would happen if I got distracted again.
The Russian man leds me outside the salon, void of blood and wasted bodies and buzzing in blissful ignorance about everything that lies behind the wooden door behind me. I wonder if I'll feel better by stabbing some of these people. I wonder if anyone had caught a glimpse of what had happened to Melina and decided to turn away for their own safety, like a coward would.
The only thing I manage to take note of in this moment is that Alexie leads me into a black car. Everything after entering the car is just a blur before I reach the familiar off-white walls of my hotel and notice a worried Pablo pacing the front of the building.
"Are you okay?"The question is asked just before I can get my other foot out of the car. "What happened? Why didn't you call me? What was--"
"Just..." I don't know what I sound like as the word comes out of my mouth and honestly can't bring myself to care as I sigh. "Leave me alone."
And he does.
He releases a breathe obviously hating it, but leaving me alone and I walk into the hotel to be greeted by the trembling receptionist and a few other trembling workers--who I don't bother responding to--and then I reach the empty elevator, type in the code to my penthouse at the top of the hotel and watch as the doors start to close.
I'm about sinking to the ground when a hand stops the elevator and reveals Alexie. He says nothing as he steps into the elevator making the space seem even smaller.
I allow myself to slump against the wall while releasing a shaky breathe. The Russian refuses to spare me a glance and I can't be bothered by his presence here.
Was he somehow behind it all?
Did he plan on killing Mel so I'd agree?
Will he continue killing people I care about?
Did he kill her just so I'd make an irrational decision in the heat of the moment?
"I didn't," his voice cuts off my thoughts and make my gaze travel to his face only to find out that he's already staring at me with assessing eyes. "I didn't and am not behind all this shit, didn't kill her so you'd agree and I know you won't make an irrational decision in the heat of the moment."
I would have been shocked about how he'd mannaged to read my thought if I weren't so devastated so I settle on looking away from him and remaining in silence till the doors of the elevator open.
I get up to leave only to have him follow right behind me. He only leaves when I make my way to my room without a care about what he's doing.
What am I supposed to tell her family, just call them and be like.
'Hey there, you know your daughter Melina, the one you sent off with me and I promised to take care of...Yeah, she's dead.'
