Early in the morning, Han Yan got up and dressed with the help of Ji Lan and Shu Hong. After choosing for a long time, Han Yan pointed to a plain long skirt with a wide hem and said, "Let's go with that one."

Ji Lan said in embarrassment: "Miss, although it is still the mourning period, this is too plain. The Zhou mother and daughter just came in and you dressed so plainly. I am afraid they would look down on you."

Han Yan shook her head: "We are not the main characters in the show today, and I don't like those bright and colorful ones. Let them go crazy and look down on us. The more they look down on us now, the more miserable they will be in the future."

Shu Hong silently found a small jacket of light moon color for her and said, "Even though it's windy outside, you should dress warmly."

Ji Lan started to comb her hair again. Han Yan had her hair combed into a bun, the same as before. The two round tufts of hair made her look even more childish.

Ji Lan used a hairband of the same color to tie her hair, without any accessories. Looking at the girl in the mirror, she was a little late in development and after this dressing, she looked just like a little doll.

"Let's go", Han Yan straightened her skirt and asked Nanny Chen to go to the front hall with her.

Compared with other court officials, Zhuang Shi Yang has never been close to women, so for so many years, there has been only one wife and two concubines in the mansion. The two concubines live in Furong courtyard, which is far away. The youngest concubine, Wan Shi, was a given maid to Zhuang Shi Yang when the ancestor was alive. Later, after she gave birth to a daughter, she became a concubine.

Zhuang Shi Yang didn't care much about this concubine and after giving birth to a daughter, he rarely entered the youngest concubine's room. Fortunately, the youngest concubine was also a well-behaved person and never caused trouble for her mother for so many years.

But the other, Mei Shi, is not a simple person.

After the death of the previous Emperor, there was a famine in the northwest. The farmland under the name of the Zhuang family had thousands of acres and the output of that year was immediately transported to the northwest to alleviate the disaster.

The Emperor was very pleased and rewarded many treasures and Mei Shi was one of them. Mei Shi was as her name suggested, not from the Central Plains but from Hu Ji tribe, born beautiful and charming and acting even more arrogant and bold. Since Mei Shi entered the mansion, Han Yan and her mother have not had a good life.

With Mei Shi's beauty, Zhuang Shi Yang, even if he was a saint, would have some thoughts on her. Moreover, women of Hu Ji tribe  always had many ways to attract men. Since Mei Shi entered the mansion, Zhuang Shi Yang had neglected his wife and other concubine and stayed in Mei Shi's room every night.

Although Zhuang Shi Yang would not favor his concubine over his wife and on the surface he respected his mother, it was a pity that men never cared about the affairs of the inner courtyard. Mei Shi was thoughtful and did not compete directly for favor, but provoked conflicts between the servants in the inner courtyard and her mother.

Her mother was cowardly by nature and timid when encountering things. This gave Mei Shi an opportunity, and soon after, the servants spread the rumor that her mother was incompetent in managing the household. Mei Shi said this simply because she wanted to take advantage of Zhuang Shi Yang's favor to force her mother to the point of being public enemy. It would be best if Zhuang Shi Yang divorced his wife so that she could take over the position of main wife.

But there was time when Mei Shi had a conflict with her mother and went too far that time. Zhuang Shi Yang was furious and took Mei Shi to the ancestral hall and gave her a severe lesson.
