"You are so unbelievable Gao. I mean, who gets a buddy through such a strange method?" A young person with silver hair, heterochronic pink and red eyes, and wears a light colored jacket over a dark blue shirt and black pants.
"Oh Shima, is that you? When'd you get back in town?" Gao asks to his nonbinary American cousin.
"This morning, but I had a few more things than I predicted to deal with so I couldn't come to class. Oh and by the way, I caught the tail end of your fight against Jin. You and Gao have certainly grown strong in the short time since you're bond first formed." Shima says, ending with a calculating glance towards him and his partner.
"Who's this?" Drum bluntly asks, slightly less blunt than he normally would've done, but he can clearly see that the two of them are close.
"They're my cousin from overseas. They live with us due to circumstances with their parents. They're also an incredibly strong buddyfighter, I've never beaten them once." Gao quickly explains to his partner.
"Oh really, then where's your buddy?" Drum, going back to blunt, asks them.
"He's running around here somewhere, I'll call him." With a sharp whistle there was a loud mess of noise as a small dragon rushes into the living room where the three of them were gathered at.
"Bal's here Bal. Who're they Bal?" The excitable mini dragon starts babbling for several seconds until Shima picked him up and start petting him to both calm him down and get him to be quiet.
"As you can see, this is my buddy monster Bal. He's a lot, but it gets amusing once you get used to him. Not that we're all here, why not have a buddyfight?" Shima says standing up, Bal still in his arms.
"Sure! With me here, we'll win for sure!" Drum says, brimming with confidence, leaving Gao no choice but to agree.
"Let's do it."
They gathered outside of the dojo for the fight with the rest of the household present, minus Gao's dad who is still at work. While normally they'd fight inside of the dojo, due to how chaotic things tend to get when Bal's around, they moved outside.
"Good luck big bro!" Gao's little sister Hana says, cheering for Gao.
Everyone was excited to see how this would go since this is the first time the two of them had faced off with both of them having a buddy monster.
"Showering the sky with scorching sun rockets! Soleil Dragon Deck, Luminize!"
"Blazing a path with scorching bonds. Luminize, Dragons of the Sun!" Shima's core gadget takes the form of a floating mini orange sun.
"Since I'm feeling generous, I'll let you go and make the first move." Shima says mockingly kind.
"Charge and draw. I pay 1 life and equip Steel Fist, Dragoknuckle." Quick to get started, Gao charges at Shima and strikes them, shaving off 2 of their life points.
"Draw, charge, and draw. To the left I call Solwise Dragon, to the right Burning Rapier Dragon." Shima begins their move by filling up their field.
