The office was buzzing with activity as people hurriedly went about their daily tasks. The boss of the company, James, sat in his office, staring out of the window. The city skyline sprawled out in front of him, its bright lights a stark contrast to the dark interior of his office.
James's attention was suddenly drawn to the sound of his secretary knocking on the door. "Come in," he called out, tearing his gaze away from the view outside. The door opened, and his assistant, Sarah, stepped into the room. "Sir, there's someone here to see you."
"Who is it?" James asked, a hint of irritation in his voice.
Sarah hesitated for a moment before answering. "It's the new hire you asked me to screen. She's here for her first day on the job."
James's expression softened slightly, and he nodded. "Send her in." He knew that he needed someone new to help manage the increasing workload. He just hoped that this new hire would turn out to be more competent than the last one.
A few seconds later, the door opened again, and a young woman stepped into the room. She was dressed professionally in a crisp white blouse and black slacks. Her curly brown hair was pulled back in a neat ponytail, and her soft, brown skin glowed in the sunlight streaming through the window. She stood there for a moment, looking a bit nervous.
James sat up straight in his chair and took her in. She looked young, but there was an air of confidence about her.
James leaned back in his chair and studied her for a moment longer. Then he spoke up. "You're the new hire Sarah mentioned?"
James regarded the young woman who stood before him with a critical eye. He could see that she was nervous, but there was also a confidence about her that made him curious. He sat up straight in his chair and laced his fingers together on the desk in front of him.
"Yes, I am," she replied with a soft voice, meeting his gaze with a firmness that surprised him.
James raised an eyebrow, intrigued. He wasn't expecting this young woman to be so composed. Most newbies would probably be shaking in their shoes at the mere sight of him. "What's your name? " he asked, his eyes never leaving hers.
James leaned back in his chair and steepled his fingers, studying the young woman standing before him. She met his gaze directly, her brown eyes steady and unwavering. After a moment of silence, James spoke again. "What's your name?"
The woman took a deep breath before answering. "Emily," she replied, her voice soft but steady. "Emily Matthews."
James nodded and leaned forward, resting his forearms on the desk. "Emily," he repeated, as if he was testing the sound of her name on his lips. He didn't miss the way her cheeks flushed slightly in response to his words.
James couldn't help but notice the subtle change in Emily's expression, the way her cheeks flushed just slightly at the sound of her name on his lips. He found himself intrigued by this new hire, her quiet confidence and calm demeanor.
"Have a seat," he said, gesturing to the empty chair across from his desk.
Emily nodded and sat down in the chair that James had pointed to. She sat straight and folded her hands in her lap, her eyes flickering around the room before settling back on him.
James leaned back in his chair and studied her for a moment, taking in her appearance. She was pretty, he thought, with her curly brown hair and soft, brown skin. But there was something else about her that he found even more attractive - her confidence.
There was a quiet strength about her that he found captivating. Perhaps it was the way she held herself, or perhaps it was the way she met his gaze without flinching. Either way, he was impressed.
