A SOLAR ECLIPSE was a seldom experience back on Earth. On Pandora, however, it was a daily occurrence that lasted roughly eight minutes. Nix found it fascinating that back home the moon's orbit around Earth was a twenty-eight-day cycle whereas Pandora—being one of fourteen moons—only took twenty-six hours to orbit the plant Polyphemus which was only slightly smaller than Jupiter.

Outer space—the universe, even—was such a vast concept that not many could fully comprehend. Nix thought herself lucky enough to not only have experienced the workings of one planet but two. That is why she would never take her time here on Pandora for granted. She wished to learn as much as she could and cherish this new world that is now her home. Because she knew that as long as her mother and the RDA were here, she would never be able to return to Earth again.

It was a sad thought to have, but she couldn't focus on it right now, not while the eclipse was taking place. It was one of her favorite times to explore the forest which, at the moment, was exactly what she was doing.

Per usual, she had strung along during Roman's shift—guarding the drill sites—thinking today would be like any other. But it became a little more special when she spotted something rarer than even the solar eclipse on her home planet.

A viperwolf.

What was strange about it was that they hardly ever came near RDA sites, and they usually moved in packs. And even though Nix knew Roman would wig out if she disappeared on him again, she had an overwhelming urge to follow it.

So, with her journal and bag, that is exactly what she did.

As she rushed deep into the forest, the sun's light began to wane, and the bioluminescence ignited in brilliant blues, greens, and violets, illuminating a beautiful path for her.

Nix stared down at her feet, grinning from ear to ear as each step she took resulted in a green-ringed wave around her boots. Tiny woodsprites were floating above her as she traversed a path of anemonids that glowed teal. She tapped each flat surface of the carnivorous plant, noting the slight sticky feel (a substance that allowed it to entrapped insects for nutrients).

While tracing the viperwolf's footsteps, Nix reached a blue leafy bush that the creature jumped behind. She slowed to a halt, settling in a crouch before pushing back a few leaves to see what was concealed behind the flora.

To her surprise, there was a shallow cave that contained a small family of viperwolves. There was a mother feeding her three pups while two other adults were feasting on what looked to be old meat. This must be their den.

Nix quickly opened her journal to take note of the animals. It seemed the one she had been tracking was out searching for fresh food which is why it strayed so close to the drill site. She wished she would've brought something edible for the carnivores, but she only carried fruits in her bag.
