On October 1st, 1989, 43 women around the world gave birth. However, none of these women were pregnant when the day first began.

Sir Reginald Hargreeves, an explorer and billionaire, sought to adopt as many of these children as he could. He got 7.

Aside from the bizarre circumstances of their births, these children weren't normal. They possessed powers that no other humans had. These powers didn't apply to every child born on the 1st of October in 1989, but only those brought about through the irregular pregnancies.

Sir Hargreeves adopted these children to train them to be "heroes" and to save the world. In all harshness, he adopted them to be subjects of an experiment. His lack of care for the children was so blunt, he cared so little that he didn't even bother naming them and simply referred to them by a ranking system of number 1- number 7 based on who he thought was strongest to weakest. Later on, the kids did get names, but they were named by their robot mother, who Sir Hargreeves invented to take care of and raise the children, while he only focused on training them.

The 9 children were;
-   #1: Luther (The Spaceboy)- Superstrength
-  #2: Diego (The Kraken)- Ability to manipulate the trajectory of moving objects
-  #3: Allison (the Rumor)- Ability to make any lie come true by saying "I heard a rumor..." and saying the lie
-  #4: Klaus (The Séance)- Can talk to, conjure, and be possessed by spirits and can resurrect himself/immortality
-  #5: Five (The Boy)- Spacial Jumps (teleportation) and time travel
-  #6: Ben ( The Horror)- Summons octopus-like tentacles from himself
-  #7: Vanya (The White Violin)- manipulates sound waves to move things/people around her or to expel the sound waves as powerful blasts of energy, her emotions easily affect her powers, so she was medicated by Sir Hargreeves since she was little to suppress her emotions and powers.

Sir Hargreeves was not a proper father and instead of raising the kids, he focused too much on training them and ended up emotionally screwing all 7 children up. Due to the lack of good parenting, most of the kids ended up leaving or being forced to leave the academy.

The first who left was Five. When he was 13, he wanted to time-travel with his power, but Sir Hargreeves told him he wasn't ready, so he ran away and time-traveled. However, he traveled to the future after an apocalypse occurred that ended nearly all life and all humans on Earth. He got stuck and was unable to time-travel back to when he first left.

Then it was Ben. He died when he was 17 during a mission called the Jennifer Case. He wanders the world as a spirit and can only be seen by and can only talk to Klaus, so he stays with Klaus most of the time ever since he died.

Next was Diego. He also left at the age of 17 because he felt that's what a 17-year-old should do, move out and start their own lives. He also left due to his hatred towards his father.

Then Allison, Vanya, and Klaus left around the same time when they were about 18-20 years old. Allison and Vanya left to pursue their dreams and goals in life, while Klaus was sort of kicked out for doing drugs and ended up in and out of rehab and jail for drug use.

Luther remained loyal to his father and the academy. He stayed in the academy and fought criminals like his dad told him. However, in 2012, Luther was sent on a mission alone and ended up nearly dying. To save him, Sir Hargreeves injected him with a serum that gave him the upper body of a gorilla. Later in 2015, Reginald Hargreeves sent Luther on a mission to the moon.

So in the end, all of his adopted children ended up leaving.

In another part of the world, another girl was born on October 1st, 1989. However, when Sir Reginald Hargreeves asked her parents to adopt her, her parents refused. Her parents didn't want to give her away just because she was born abnormally. The girl is named Marie.

Marie's powers allowed her to control all atoms within objects and people. She could move objects and lift them without ever touching them. She could also control how fast certain cells or all cells in humans reproduced, speeding up or slowing down the rate at which a person would die from their body's cells dying too quickly to make more. She also later developed the ability to control people to do any action she wanted them to do, but she couldn't control someone's thoughts or emotions.

However, when Marie was 9, her parents got the idea to build a company. They put all of their money and time into this company, leaving Marie alone and without proper parental figures.

By the time Marie was 11, she and her parents were very distant, almost roommates more than parents and daughter. After a while, her parents didn't want to have to focus on her at all and decided to ask Sir Reginald Hargreeves if he still wanted to adopt her.

Thankfully for them, Sir Hargreeves agreed to adopt Marie.

When she moved into the academy she was numbered as Eight because she was the last to come.

It was 2003 so all siblings except for Five still lived at the Umbrella Academy. At first, they were very distant towards Marie and treated her as an outcast, however as time passed on, they became more and more friendly with her. By the time Marie had spent a year at the Umbrella Academy, she and all of the other siblings were fairly close. They weren't as close as siblings, but they were like good friends or cousins to each other, like family.

Around Marie's 10th birthday, she started showing signs of her powers developing even further. Her aging, physically, slowed down significantly and she still stayed looking like a 11 y/o at the age of 16.

Reginald Hargreeves saw a lot of potential in Marie, so he made her practice a lot more and would also have her study more science to truly understand how her powers work. From the time she was 11 up to the age of 30, she spent almost all of her time practicing and studying.

She wanted to leave like the other siblings did, but she couldn't. How was she supposed to get a proper life when she looked 14 years old at the age of 30? She didn't have a proper high school education or diploma, so she couldn't go to college and no proper business would hire her without a college degree and looking like a child.

Even if she ran away, she didn't know where to go. She didn't have the money to stay at a motel, she didn't have any job experience anywhere, and the only thing anyone knew about her was that she was one of the girls from the Umbrella Academy.

Then one random night, Sir Reginald Hargreeves dies. It was a fairly normal death, especially given his age, but it was still a bit shocking.

The news spread very quickly once the media found out. Most of the siblings found out about his death in the media or newspapers talking about his death.

Honestly, Marie found Sir Hargreeves' death as a chance to finally leave than as a really sad event. Sure it wasn't a good thing that he died, but she could now finally leave with no people or things tying her back to the Umbrella Academy.

But is his death really a good thing? Or will it lead to a series of many unfortunate and confusing events that end up worse for everyone than when Hargreeves was still alive?
