The pool itself wasn't huge. But there were two parts to it. One had a slide and various fountains, filled with young kids and their parents. The other was the adult pool, rectangular in shape and cold.
Of course I chose the warm, kiddy pool first. I didn't want to freeze.
As I lowered myself into the pool, a noisy chatter interspersed with screams surrounded me. Looking around I noticed the pool was extremely full.
The floor of the pool had cartoon sea creatures painted on it. I couldn't help but admire the attention to detail as a kid jumped in next to me causing a wave of water to splash into my eyes.
Blinking rapidly, I tried to get the water out. Maybe I should have worn goggles.
I didn't really find this relaxing per se, but it helped me get my mind off the night before.
I slowly submerged myself under the water for a few seconds letting the water soothe my muscles before resurfacing. Pushing my hair away from my face I began to slowly swim around the perimeter dodging people as I went.
Two minutes later, I came across a small boy probably about five years old who looked terrified. His eyes were franticly darting between people, as he sat alone on the steps going into the pool. I came to stand in the shallows in front of him.
"Hello. My name is Alina." I said introduced softly. "Are you okay?"
"I...I...." He whimpered, almost squeaking as he grabbed onto the rail of the steps.
"Look it's going to be okay, don't worry." I said lowering my head so we were at eye level. "Where are your parents?"
"I don't know." He cried. "I..I... think they forgot about-" He took in a large breath, voice cracking. "me."
"I'm sure they didn't. How can I find them?" I inquired trying to think logically.
"My mummy is wearing a zebra swimming costume I think." He mumbled sniffling, avoiding my gaze.
That couldn't be hard to find. "Let's go get her." I took his hand and we slowly moved between the groups of people. I jokingly awarded myself 50 humanity points for being a good samaritan.
Just as we meandered behind the second slide, a young women called out, "Johnny! God you had me worried sick! I love you baby." She outstretched her arms.
The little boy quickly withdrew his hand from mine, thrashing and kicking his way over to his mother wearing the zebra swimming costume.
She turned to me, "I was about to call the lifeguard for help and not just because I love a hot guy in uniform." She grinned, but it quickly changed into gratitude, her arms tightening around her son. "Thank you for bringing him to me. I must have lost track of him, there are a lot of children in here." She explained with a hint of a Spanish accent.
"No worries. I hope you guys have a good rest of the day." I replied warmly with my own smile.
"Mummy. I was so scared!" Johnny whined loudly, earning a few curious glances from people nearby.
He wrapped his thin arms securely around his mother's neck, his face turning to me. "T'ank you Aliiina."
Johnny waved goodbye happily as I turned around still smiling.
Deciding now I should probably do a few laps in the adult pool, I lifted myself out of the water at the side. Walking over, I stood by the edge looking out of the glass walls towards the camp.
"Hey!" A loud male voice yelled. "No running!"
Did he sound familiar? Was all I could question before someone rammed into the side of my legs. A girl who came up to my waist, full on pushed me out of the way while chasing after someone else.
Rude much.
I couldn't really process anything else as I fell. My feet swung out from under me, and I landed hard on my back. My head hitting corner of the pool, one leg and one arm in the frigid water.
Precariously balanced on the edge, I slowly rolled onto my side wincing. Pain rushed to my cranium and thick tendrils of wet brown hair began to suffocate me. I could hear a few exclamations of worry as swimmers nearby shouted asking me if I was okay.
"Are you alright Miss?" The same voice of order from before asked with concern. I was still curled on my side, my head on my arm.
A hand found mine, slowly pulling me to my feet. Wiping my hair from my face I looked to where I had fallen moments before, disorientated. I wouldn't have been surprised if there had been an indentation of my body in the stone.
"Ouch!" I cried quietly through gritted teeth, as my hand touched my head. I withdrew it shaking to find a splattering of blood on my fingertips.
Great... I mouthed. "Um, yeah I should be just fine after I sit down." I replied dazed, my eyes still transfixed on the blood.
"Wait -a- second." My savour instructed dragging out the words, ignoring what I had said. "Oooh isn't this a surprise?" His voice drawled. "I almost didn't recognise you. But your cries do sound the same." He chuckled, all the sympathy gone from his voice.
Who is this jerk? Savour my ass. Can't he see I'm in pain? Who has the audacity to try and be condescending right now? Real professional. I thought staring at the swirling red dripping onto the stone.
Confused, now realising that I hadn't even looked up at the person who was, until just a moment ago, holding my other hand, my eyes looked over him.
There stood in red board shorts which were hung loosely on his hips, the lifeguard. Tall, muscled, and yes the woman was right. Very, very, good-looking. With a watch on his wrist and a metal whistle around his neck, he could have been a model advertising men's clothing. Or lack there of.
My eyes found his face, then his eyes.
Ughhh. I could not be dealing with this right now. I internally groaned.
I knew I recognised that voice. He was one of the guys who I had shot last night. Right in the god, damn, face.
There was suddenly a pounding in my head. It felt like bullets were echoing off my skull at super speed. Chlorine flooded my senses overpoweringly, my nausea stealing my attention away from his smirking face before something serious flashed in his eyes.
I swayed on my feet. I was feeling out of control.
My legs gave way and darkness consumed me before slamming into the stone once again.
