The High Vampire disappeared right away but the High Warlock and the Alpha King stayed where we were. I wasn't sure what was going on but the High Warlock grabbed me on my shoulder. I turned to him.
"Leave us," the High Warlock ordered the Alpha King.
The Alpha King bowed his head and left the room. He couldn't leave without my magic anyway. Jasmine stayed with me and didn't go with her father for once.
"What?" I asked. The High Warlock wasn't my favorite person either but if he kept on siding with me, then perhaps we could be possibly allies. Maybe.
"I'm proud of you," the High Warlock said.
"You're- what?" I asked, pretty startled by what the High Warlock told me just now.
"Proud of you," the High Warlock repeated.
Why would anyone be proud of me? After what I had done up at the human royal family castle?
"Oh," I finally said when I found my voice. "Why?"
The High Watlock smiled. "Never heard anyone tell you that before?"
I shook my head.
"You stood up to our oppressors-"
"The humans," I interrupted him.
"Yes," the High Warlock said. "Knowing that the Crown Prince was your father must've been hard. I heard you killed him in cold blood and without mercy."
"It wasn't that hard," I said, shrugging my shoulders carelessly. "He didn't love me, so I killed him."
Jasmine leaned against me, trying to comfort me. I put my hand on Jasmine's shoulder. In my opinion, Jasmine had been lucky with meeting her biological father. Her father was happy to have finally found her, mine wasn't. Mine tried to kill me from the moment I had been born.
The High Warlock nodded his head in understanding. "The things we do for love," he said. He looked at Jasmine trying to comfort me.
If my mommy hadn't taken Jasmine in, Jasmine would've still be a wolf wondering around the Valley of Dragons and never fully understanding what it was like to be human. I also wouldn't get to have a sister and help take care of her while Mommy went off to work or would just be gone for a long time.
"Question," I said after a few moments of silence. "Why did you send Alice Kirby and her family after me after my Mother took my place to be the royal family's prisoner to take me to see you?"
"I wanted to help you when your mother told me she was going back to the castle to try to make amends with your father," the High Warlock explained. "She did tell me where she was raising you and that she was trying to hide and protect you from your father. That's when I told the Kirby werewolf family. I knew you would be accepting if the person coming to collect you was a werewolf. Guess I was wrong."
"I didn't know if I could trust them," I said, barely audible. I glanced down at the floor, a little ashamed.
The High Warlock nodded his head and pulled out a card from his pocket. "Well, here's my card if you ever need to get a hold of me," he said, handing me the card.
I reached out my hand and grabbed the card. "Thanks," I mumbled as I put it in my own pocket.
"Until we meet again," the High Warlock said before flicking his wrist high in the air and disappearing before my eyes.
"Come on Jazy," I told Jasmine a moment later. "Let's go find your father."
We turned and I led the way over to where the Alpha King was in one of the rooms of the Council of Magical Creatures Headquarters. I held Jasmine's hand on one side and stretched out my hand toward the Alpha King. He took my empty free hand and we disappeared back to his place.
