Prologue

Eight years ago

I sat bye the flickering fire listening to mother hum her usual song

"Mother" I looked up at her from the rocking chair

"Yes" she said in a soft tone her silver hair glistening in the fire light room "where's dad?" I asked it was getting late and I had gotten board of the picture book I wanted dad I wanted to play a game with him!

"You're bored aren't you Elysia?" Mother moved some of my black hair that had fallen on my face "yes very!" I told her grouchily slinging deeper into the chair "I want dad" "you're dads busy at the moment" mother told me "I know" I sighed mother giggled I didn't understand what was funny though "why don't I tell you a story?" Mother asked "you tell me a story" I sat up properly now this sounded interesting mother's stories were never boring "Yes do you now about the evil king?" She asked I shook my head "we'll long long ago" "how long?" I asked mother smiled softly "very long ago as long as the first princess of the hygift's~"

"The first princess of the hygifts you know what a Hygift is Elysia?"

"Hygift's, Hybrid's and the gifted" i nodded my head lying down on her lap "yes but what is the difference between them? Surely I've taught you this" mother asked as if giving me a quiz "of course I know that!" I exclaimed "a gifted person is someone with powers! Usually you only have one gift or two three and four gifts are really rare the gifts are usually elements like ice water fire wind nature earth rock or sometimes really rare all of them but people with two gifts they... they... I forgot" i muttered mother laughed "I guess I'll explain it one more time"

"Gifted people are people with a certain power most people have elements for gifts while some have a special gift that contains an element but can also do something special with it let's say like someone can creat Ice with poison in it but there's also people who have all the elements-" "like you!" I exclaimed "yes like me now what if there was someone with two gifts? Or three maybe even four these people have gifts maybe based on each other let's say some people have gifts that connect so creating ice that can poison maybe now I can make ice flowers that freeze people this is most of the time they connect but sometimes like my gift's for example I have two I have all elements and danger sense where I can sense when someone wants to hurt me" she patted my head "what about dad?" I asked "you're father has electricity that changes colour which isn't really helpful but it's still something he also can read minds but there's a problem me and you're father aren't gifted people" "then what are you?" I asked "where hygifts" mother smiled "if gifts are a power and hybrids are-" "half animal with no powers!" I cut in "yes then a Hygift would be?" Mother asked "someone half animal with powers" mother nodded "hygifts come in two there are the hygift's with gifts and a spirit animal which they'll meet at one point in life and the other Hygift would be the one who is actually half animal and has gifted powers" mother explained I nodded "what type of Hygift is dad the first one or the second?" I asked "the first one he has a spirit animal mr wolf you know" "oh yea!" I nodded and smiled

"Let's continue with the story" mother patted my head "The third and fourth princess of the Obelian empire and the first princess born to king Reynold and Queen Ray surprisingly they had twins they neared them princess Siren the elder one and Princess Selena the younger one you see you can unlock you're gift at a really young age there is no certain age where you do unlock you're gift it just comes sometimes it may never come! The princess's loved a happy like in the palace now back then only the royal family possessed the power of the Hygift everyone else were ether hybrid or gifted now empire had been split into two with two kings ruling the king if the humans who assigned the Hygift king to lead the odd people the two kings were longtime friends they did this to keep peace between everyone the problem began on the princess's seventh birthday when princess Selena manifested her gift which had something to do with light and her animal spirit a hamster as for Siren she didn't manifest her gift that day or the next not even a year later people started to get worried since she was now eight but they suspected that maybe she was a late Gifter they had up till the age of nine or else something was definitely wrong princess Siren completely unaware of how this affected her status had no problem with it she enjoyed her life as it is with her sister on her ninth birthday nothing happened the queen began to get worried that princess Siren would never manifest her gift months passed and it never showed for that people saw her rank in society fall with that at banquets and parties the princess would attend any would humiliate her and I guess she began to understand that she wasn't normal the poor girl had it hard though she still had her family on her tenth birthday something no one expected happened-" "what?" I exclaimed sitting up shocked "it turns out he aimed for Siren but Selena just so happened to move in the way last minute her uncle said it was to get rid of the discharge from the family shocked to hear these words siren ran out the hall in tears just reaching the end something fluffy touched her hand just as she fell to the floor crying" I looked at mum as she paused "what was it?" I asked "what do you think?" Mum asked "her spirit animal?" I asked mum nodded "you guessed well but Siren began to think why now? What was the point her gift was being able to see the future through water and controlling things her Spirit animal was a blue kitten or was it a hamster I'm not sure she decided to keep it a secret especially since there was a traitor among the palace walls years passed and the human king died and his son took his place" Mather paused "his son didn't like the Hygift's or our people to be exact he hated us to be exact he sent spied to the kingdom and soon attacked of course we had the advantage and fought back or so we thought turns out we had traitor's Among our own destroying the kingdom from the inside giving the humans the advantage to capture the royal family" mother shook her head "what happened next?"I asked "the royal family being in the palace when they were about to get captured sent the young prince and princess Selena through a secret passage to escape no one knows what happened to the two of them but they most likely lived the main royal family was brought to there knees the new king said see what I have done I have made the humans king again I shall bring down each and every single one of you we shall get rid of these creatures starting with you but the hygift king interrupted and said a mer human get rid of us? We used to rule thins kingdom we stepped down the throne to make peace and you are here to start war who ever starts something will lose something you are about to lose our respect and the guardians of the empire you can never defeat us" silence filled the room I looked at mum curiously "the king laughed and laughed and laughed saying I can easily defeat you you hygift's are nothing without you're power that's why I had this object made a silver arm band that stopped gifts from working in fact injured them when ever they did apparently they got it from the neighbouring empire since they signed a treaty" mum fell silent again before continuing "they put the arm band on to the main royals turns out the traitors were a few distant royals as well saying they must build a new world and that they were promised there safety for there help but they were the first ones killed as each one of them perished he let out the news as the hygift's hybrids and gifted split up into small villages abandoning there homes some even formed tribes to survive such as the forest tribe where we are from you're brother is there right now remember-" "wait isn't this just a story?" I asked mum "it's the history of our empire" i paused "wit so the evil king is real!?" I looked at mum in a hurry mother nodded "does that mean he's killing everyone!? Did he actually destroy the kingdom!" Mothers nodded "now let me finish after people went into hiding and split up becuse it was getting more harder the first order was to kill any creatures you see but the new order came saying if you can't kill them capture them they began to open labs taking in people and testing in them some labs are hidden in the capital while others are right near the wall and we'll guarded-" "what are we doing if only the royal family's are hygift's what does that make you and dad!?" I asked shocked "no some of the royal family got away and back then they had already mixed bloods a bit and now it spread but there really hard to find like me you you're brother and dad were hiding in this village you see to get away if the humans ever get us we'll be in trouble since we are?" "Hygift" I breathed out mother nodded "so we were extra carful you're twin brother got his gift way to early that he lost control we left him behind in forest tribe knowing he would be safe with my brother you're uncle Saber he's doing great so they say in the notes" mother smiled "will I ever meet brother?" Dad looked at me curiously I looked up at my dad his reddish pink eyes telling me something was off so I just said "mama told me a story about the old kingdom" "really" he looked at mum now confused "i told her just in case" mum muttered he nodded 'in case of what?' I wanted to ask but shrugged it off I grabbed my picture book as mother and father sat bye the fire talking in whispers I lay on Mr wolf's fur as the picture began to blur black hair silver hair mamas blue eyes looking at me with a look I've never seen and dad looked more worried than ever 'what wrong? Aren't we safe where hiding far away-'

I jolted awake from the side of the bed to be awoken bye the plain white room and plain white bed with the white desk and weird white clock that told me the time date and weather it was night evening sundown or morning 'just a dream' I thought thought the sounds of crackling fire still lingered in my ear and Lucifers warm fur maybe because the white blanket was fluffy like him I got up lying down in the bed fully 'home that was home wasn't it this song home it's the prison mum mentioned when they capture people who they find' I sighed twisting around 'I want to go home or somewhere else not here where they lock you in a room that zaps you or when you try to escape with a friend they kill them and put you in a room full of dead people with blood everywhere and they also poison you before hand so everything is spinning and you can scent everything the smell of death around the corner or was it just the bodies then when they put you back in you're old room you're sure you're friend is dead because he didn't reply when you called his name to the thin walls instead you heard Mike's voice asking who this was'

I sighed *bang* the door opened "get up filthy creature boss wants you" they grabbed me bye the shirt "ack I can walk myself!" I exclaimed "yea but you'll just try and run off again little brat" I winced as the kicked me
