Author's Note: Well well well. Look who came out from hiding. Once again I am back from an unplanned hiatus to drop one or two chapters before I will very likely get wrapped up in a different project for another few months. That being said, I was putting off this chapter because it's one of the last chapters based on the show and I didn't care much for this episode in general. However, opening up my account again and seeing that, even recently, there had been comments and likes on the latest chapter helped me decide to forge ahead and write this. This chapter actually had several rewrites, where I changed the POV, edited the storyline, etc. Honestly, I'm pretty happy with the result. This is the first chapter where I begin to really pull away from the script of the show and have a bit of creative fun. As such, I'm a little nervous about the quality because it is the first real test of my ability to write the story, rather than simply add on to the original script. Oh well, too late to go back now! So without further ado here is part 4, see you in the closing notes!
Brooklyn's POV:
Where were we? Ah yes, Darius and Kenji are about to be Raptor Chow.
Brooklyn could feel her stomach rising in her throat. She was useless and even worse, helpless, watching everything from afar. The only thing she had managed to do was make the situation worse and force Darius to jump into the enclosure with Kenji.
As she looked down at the scene unfolding she felt her body freeze up. Darius was slowly backing away from the raptors, one hand out as if to placate or ward them off. Meanwhile, Kenji had his back against the enclosure wall, his eyes looking empty and haunted.
"Kenji, those bones, check for a raptor skull." Brooklyn could hear the panic creeping up in Darius' voice.
In a daze, Kenji replied, "What?"
"In the videogame, I-" Whatever else Darius was about to say was cut off as he tripped over one of the bones that littered the ground and found himself sitting down hard in the dirt of the enclosure.
The mention of a videogame seemed to break Kenji from his daze, "You want to talk about video games right now?!"
No longer placid, Kenji spun around and began pounding on the door "No! Let me out, let me out!"
Darius was now scooting away from the raptors as they proceeded to close in but quickly ran out of space as his back hit the wall. Brooklyn could hear other noises around the enclosure, but she couldn't look away from the scene in front of her.
Even from a distance, she could see the muscles of the leading raptor coil, like a snake preparing to strike. Brooklyn closed her eyes, gripping the railing tightly. She couldn't watch.
Suddenly the inside of her eyelids were illuminated, and instead of the sounds of her friends being mauled a chorus of indignant screeches came up from the pack of raptors.
Brooklyn opened her eyes and looked around just in time to see Roxie throwing hunks of meat into the raptor enclosure. The pack turned from their prey, apparently deciding that the hunt was not worth it if fresh hunks of meat were being delivered to them. However, the leader of the pack refocused on Darius, seeming to size him up before lunging forward for the kill.
"Darius, no!" Brooklyn felt herself yell, panic regripping her body and sending adrenaline coursing through her veins.
Just before the raptor could reach the boys the gate behind them slid open and Dave pulled them both out to safety. The clang of the gate falling back into place mixed with the crash of the velociraptor's body hitting it at full speed.
Brooklyn sprinted down the stairs to the boys, pushing her way through the security guards who had just arrived and began shouting orders to secure the paddock. When she reached the trio she found the boys panting, hands on their knees, as Dave stood in front of them looking a bit wobbly.
