She was woken up by a loud knock on her bedroom door, the next morning. Eliza opened the door, her face beaming,
"Miss Zor-El! We were just about to wonder where you were. Your parents are waiting for you with the guests." Eliza said, bustling Kara into the house.
"We have guests?" she asked, sleepily. She couldn't remember either of her parents mentioning that they were to have any visitors...
"Yes, sweetie. We must hurry and get you ready!"
Kara didn't feel like she had the strength to get up. Not after yesterday. She was quite surprised to see Eliza acting as cheery as ever after just having lost her daughter.
Kara didn't really have a choice though because Eliza ushered her out of bed nonetheless.
Eliza prepared Kara's dress for the day as she brushed her teeth and did her hair. They quickly made their way downstairs, not wanting to keep Kara's parents waiting too long.
She and Eliza rounded the corner into the drawing room, where Lord Zor-El and Lady Alura were sitting on a lounge, facing the door. The guests were sitting on a similar lounge with their backs to her.
"Mother? Father? You wanted to see me?" Kara curtsied as she looked at her parents questioningly.
"Ah! Yes, Kara, dearest." Lord Zor-El stood up and walked over to his daughter, "We have very special guests... please be polite and greet Lord Lar Gand and his son, Mon-El."
Kara felt like she had been kicked in the stomach by a horse or thrown off a cliff in a barrel lined with iron nails. Her heart stood paralyzed with shock for a split second. It was most uncommon for the groom to visit so shortly before the wedding, let alone with his family in tow.
Her brow furrowed into a frown and her father made sure to correct her on it, just before Mon-El got up to greet his bride-to-be,
"Miss Kara Zor-El. I have heard so much about you. I must say, you are even more beautiful in person."
"Uh- thank you, sir." Kara curtsied, politely to the man. She took a long, hard look at him. She had light brown locks and a stubble beard. He had a blindingly white smile and looked like a nice young man overall. He had a strong, muscular build. He was wearing a blue shirt and trousers combination with a black, crossed chest patterned coat.
Kara was sure that he was a nice man but she just wasn't interested in him, afterall she was already married.
"Please sit, Kara. We would like you to get to know Mon-El better before your wedding." Lord Zor-El explained.
"If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them." Mon-El smiled, sincerely.
Kara was slightly taken aback by the surprise visit and didn't even know where to start or what to ask the young man, who was sitting opposite her. She did know, however, that she had a lot of questions that she would have loved to ask her parents in that moment but she didn't want to embarrass them or seem unruly in front of their guests. She tried to think of something to ask the young man, to seem keen in front of her parents,
"Mon-El, what do you like to do in your spare time?"
"I quite enjoy fencing and similar martial arts such as boxing. I enjoy sports. And yourself, miss?"
"Oh, I enjoy reading and writing."
"What do you write about, may I ask?"
"Mostly journalism. I like to research in our library and write reports on social matters or even factual pieces such as botany or zoology. I wish to be a professional writer one day."
