Seungmin's fingers drummed a staccato beat on the desk, her brow furrowed in concentration. Her eyes were fixed on the report in front of her, but her mind was a thousand miles away, preoccupied with the weight of her impending nuptials. The sound of the door opening broke the spell, and she looked up to see her friend Lia entering the room.
Lia's eyes scanned the space, sensing the tension that hung in the air like a palpable fog. "What's wrong?" she asked, her voice soft with concern. "Why are you so worked up today?"
Seungmin's gaze drifted back to her report, her fingers still tapping out a nervous rhythm. Lia approached her, placing a steaming cup of coffee on the desk beside her. The aroma wafted up, rich and inviting, but Seungmin barely noticed.
Lia's presence finally registered, and Seungmin's eyes focused on her friend. A deep sigh escaped her lips, and she rubbed her temples, as if trying to massage away the stress. "Yesterday, they fixed our marriage," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "The date is tomorrow."
Lia's eyes widened in surprise. "Tomorrow?" she repeated, her tone laced with disbelief. "Wow"
But in the next moment Lia's eyes sparkled with recollection, her voice filled with encouragement. "But you said they made a contract, which states that if Minho recovers, you can get a divorce. You can still get out of this, Seungmin."
Seungmin's response was a dramatic, flailing of her arms, her tone laced with annoyance. "When he's filling out the divorce papers, I'll be filling out the mental hospital papers for myself! I can't believe I'm stuck in this nightmare."
Lia settled into the sofa, her expression a mix of calm and concern. "Now, you're exaggerating. It's not like you haven't dealt with rude and difficult patients before. You're a professional, Seungmin. You can handle this."
Seungmin's grumble was under her breath, but loud enough for Lia to hear. "But I don't marry my other patients." Her eyes rolled heavenward, as if seeking divine intervention.
"And I don't think he's even a patient! He's some rude, cold bastard, and his parents know no one is going to love him, so they trapped me and I literally let myself get trapped in this! My parents are too involved, they're blinded by Minho's family's fame and money. They've sold me out, Lia!" Seungmin's words poured out like a torrent, her anger and frustration boiling over.
Lia listened attentively, knowing better than to interrupt Seungmin when she was in full rant mode.
Then seungmin's expressions changed like she finally found the answer for the seven year old math problem. "I think he's some psycho killer or maybe a mafia boss! He's got that cold, calculating gaze, like he's sizing me up for his next move."
Lia's expression turned from concerned to exasperated. "Now it's too much, Seungmin. You're letting your imagination run wild."
But Seungmin was too far gone to listen, her words spilling out in a furious torrent. "Minho's parents are afraid that he's going to expose them and himself with this behavior, so they want to marry me off to him. But they don't know, Lia, I was going to expose them! I'm going to take my revenge, and I'm going to make sure they regret ever crossing me!"
Lia rolled her eyes and threw up her hands, palm facing upward in 'what am I dealing with' gesture.
"Seungmin do you want me to book an appointment for you too with a doctor?" Lia sound defeated , her eyes begging for her friend to snap back to reality.
Seungmin's eyes narrowed, her gaze piercing through Lia like a dagger. "Are you literally my friend?" she asked, her voice dripping with drama, her hands paused mid-air.
