Straight

Sypnopsis:

Mark always thought he was straight until he kissed Haechan.

Mark always thought he was straight. He had dated girls throughout high school and college, feeling sure of his orientation. His friends teased him good-naturedly about his lack of imagination, but he didn't mind. Mark was confident in who he was. Or so he thought.

It was a humid summer evening when the shift in his reality began. Mark and his friends had planned a small get-together at Johnny’s place. The group was a close-knit circle of friends who had known each other for years. Among them was Haechan, the life of the party, with his quick wit and infectious laughter. Mark had always admired Haechan's carefree spirit, but he never thought much about it.

The night was filled with music, laughter, and the sweet aroma of barbecue wafting through the air. They played games, sang along to old hits, and reminisced about their school days. As the night wore on, the group thinned out, with some friends calling it a night and others lounging lazily on the patio.

Mark found himself sitting on the porch swing with Haechan. The two had gravitated towards each other, finding comfort in each other's presence amidst the laughter and chaos. Haechan was animatedly recounting a funny story from their high school days, his eyes sparkling with mirth. Mark couldn't help but be drawn in, laughing along with him.

Remember when you tripped over the microphone cord during the talent show?❞ Haechan chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

Oh God, don’t remind me,❞ Mark groaned, covering his face with his hands. ❝I wanted to disappear that day.❞

But you were great! You got up and finished your performance like a champ,❞ Haechan said, nudging him playfully.

As the conversation flowed, they gradually moved closer, their knees brushing against each other. The night air was thick with the scent of blooming flowers and the distant hum of cicadas. The world seemed to shrink to just the two of them on that porch swing.

At some point, a comfortable silence enveloped them. Haechan leaned back, his head resting against the swing’s chain, and looked up at the star-studded sky. Mark’s gaze lingered on Haechan’s profile, the way the moonlight played on his features, highlighting the soft curve of his jaw, the fullness of his lips.

Without realizing it, Mark found himself leaning closer, drawn by an invisible force. Haechan turned his head, and their eyes met. There was an intensity in Haechan’s gaze that Mark had never noticed before, something that sent a shiver down his spine.

Mark, what are you—❞ Haechan’s voice was barely a whisper, his breath mingling with Mark’s.

I don’t know,❞ Mark replied, his voice trembling. ❝I just...❞

The words hung in the air, unfinished, as Mark’s lips brushed against Haechan’s. It was a soft, tentative kiss, filled with uncertainty and an unspoken question. Haechan’s lips were warm and inviting, and before Mark knew it, he was deepening the kiss, his hand moving to cup Haechan’s cheek.

Haechan responded, his fingers tangling in Mark’s hair, pulling him closer. The kiss was electric, a rush of emotions and sensations that left Mark’s heart pounding in his chest. It felt like the world had shifted on its axis, everything he thought he knew about himself unraveling in that moment.

When they finally pulled apart, both were breathless. Mark stared at Haechan, his mind racing. ❝I... I didn’t mean to—❞

Haechan placed a finger on Mark’s lips, silencing him. ❝It’s okay, Mark. I think we both needed to find out.❞

Mark nodded, his mind still reeling. ❝I’ve never... I mean, I thought I was straight.❞

Haechan smiled softly, his eyes filled with understanding. ❝Sometimes, we don’t know until we know.❞

The rest of the night was a blur of emotions for Mark. He and Haechan talked for hours, sharing their fears and uncertainties. They fell asleep on the porch swing, wrapped in each other’s arms, the first light of dawn casting a golden glow over them.

As the weeks past by, Mark found himself thinking about Haechan constantly. They spent more time together, exploring the new dynamics of their relationship. It was both exhilarating and terrifying, but Mark felt a sense of rightness he had never experienced before.

It was evening, when they walked along the beach, the waves crashing gently at their feet, Mark turned to Haechan. ❝I think I’m falling for you,❞ he confessed, his voice filled with both fear and hope.

Haechan smiled, taking Mark’s hand in his. ❝I think I’ve been falling for you for a long time.❞

Mark’s heart swelled with emotion as he pulled Haechan into a tender kiss, the ocean breeze swirling around them. In that moment, Mark realized that love doesn’t always follow the paths we expect. Sometimes, it takes us by surprise, leading us to places we never imagined.

And for Mark, that unexpected kiss with Haechan had opened the door to a love he never knew he was looking for.
