The Flirting Game

Sypnopsis:

Best friends Na Jaemin and Lee Donghyuck, both Performing Arts majors at Seoul National University, are known for their playful flirting. What starts as a joke turns serious when they're cast as romantic leads in a play.

Na Jaemin and Lee Donghyuck had been best friends since their freshman year at Seoul National University. Both majoring in Performing Arts, their bond was forged through countless rehearsals, late-night study sessions, and shared dreams of taking the stage together. From the moment they met, their chemistry was undeniable, and their friendship was built on a foundation of playful banter and mutual support.

Jaemin, have you ever considered that maybe you were put on this earth just to annoy me?❞ Donghyuck would say, rolling his eyes dramatically as Jaemin ruffled his hair.

Oh, absolutely,❞ Jaemin replied with a grin. ❝But admit it, you'd miss me if I wasn't around.

Their flirting was a well-known spectacle among their friends. They would exchange witty remarks and subtle touches that always left everyone questioning if there was something more between them. Jaemin would often drape his arm around Donghyuck's shoulders, pulling him close and whispering exaggerated compliments in his ear.

Hyuck, you look stunning today. Are you trying to make me fall in love with you?❞ Jaemin teased one afternoon in the campus café.

Donghyuck laughed, shoving him playfully. ❝Keep dreaming, Jaemin. You're not my type.❞

But as the semesters passed, the line between jest and reality began to blur. They started noticing little things about each other that went beyond friendship. Donghyuck found himself looking forward to Jaemin's silly compliments, and Jaemin felt a strange warmth whenever Donghyuck laughed at his jokes.

It was during their junior year, amidst the chaos of preparing for their end-of-year production, that things began to change. They were cast as the romantic leads in a play, a story of two friends who discover their love for each other. The irony was not lost on them.

During rehearsals, their director, Professor Kim, often praised their natural chemistry. ❝You two make it look so real,❞ she said, smiling knowingly. ❝Keep it up, and this will be the best performance of the year.❞

After a particularly intense rehearsal, they found themselves alone on the stage, the auditorium lights casting a soft glow around them. Jaemin was sitting on the edge of the stage, his feet dangling, while Donghyuck lay on his back, staring up at the ceiling.

Do you think we're convincing because we've been friends for so long?❞ Donghyuck asked, his voice echoing slightly in the empty hall.

Maybe,❞ Jaemin replied, looking down at his friend. ❝Or maybe... it's something more.❞

Donghyuck turned his head to look at Jaemin, his expression unreadable. ❝What do you mean?

Jaemin hesitated, the words catching in his throat. ❝I mean, what if all this flirting... what if it's not just a joke anymore?❞

Donghyuck sat up, his eyes wide. ❝Jaemin, are you saying...?

Jaemin took a deep breath. ❝Yeah. I think I have feelings for you, Hyuck. Real ones.❞

There was a long silence, the air thick with unspoken emotions. Finally, Donghyuck spoke, his voice barely above a whisper. ❝I think I do too.❞

From that moment on, their relationship took on a new dimension. The playful flirting continued, but now it was laced with genuine affection and a sense of excitement. They began spending more time together outside of rehearsals, going on late-night walks around the campus, sharing secrets and dreams that they had never voiced before.

After their memorable performance, they found themselves on the rooftop of their dormitory, the city lights twinkling below them. Donghyuck leaned against the railing, looking out at the skyline.

It's beautiful up here,❞ he said softly.

Not as beautiful as you,❞ Jaemin replied, his voice gentle.

Donghyuck turned to him, a shy smile playing on his lips. ❝You never stop, do you?❞

Not when it comes to you,❞ Jaemin said, stepping closer. ❝Hyuck, I meant what I said that night on stage. I love you.❞

Donghyuck's breath caught in his throat. He reached out, taking Jaemin's hand in his. ❝I love you too, Jaemin. I think I always have.❞

They stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, the city below a distant memory. For the first time, their teasing and flirting had led them to a place of undeniable truth. They had fallen for each other, and there was no turning back.

The transition from friends to lovers was surprisingly natural. Their friends quickly noticed the change, often catching them holding hands or exchanging soft glances during rehearsals. They still flirted, but now it was accompanied by tender kisses and whispered ❝I love yous.❞

They sat in their favorite café, Donghyuck looked at Jaemin, a mischievous glint in his eye. ❝So, do you think we'll get typecast as romantic leads from now on?❞

Jaemin chuckled, squeezing his hand. ❝As long as it's with you, I don't mind.❞

Their love story, once a playful game, had become a beautiful reality. And as they faced their final year of college, they knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together. Their bond, forged in friendship and solidified in love, was unbreakable.
