There's a point in everyone's lives where they mess up. Every one messes up now and then, but a colossal mess-up like I had just gotten myself into? That requires a whole new skillset.

I sat there, zoned out and watching over Linda's shoulder while she kept telling me to go apologize.

"Are you even listening to me?" She asked.

I snapped back. "I zoned out, sorry."

"So, what are you going to do about it?" She asked. "It's better to go apologize at the earliest. You don't want it coming and stinging you later, do you?"

It would definitely come to that, eventually. I thought.

The thought of conveying a bad image about myself in someone's first-impressions got me uncomfortable. When that person was Linda, it started haunting me.

Maybe, I really need to apologize. I thought and got up. My legs were dead from sitting down for so long.

"I will apologize to her." I confirmed, and Linda got up. "I really don't know what to say though. I don't think a simple sorry would cut it, will it?"

"I take it that you've never apologized before."

"I have but this is different."

"How so?"

I gave it a bit of thought. "I've never said anything bad about people behind their backs and had them get to know about it."

"God you're so indifferent." She said. "Well, since its clear you've not apologized much to people, let me help you out. You can start by saying that you're sorry-"

"I'm pretty sure she will not be pleased with that"

"-that's not all." She continued, "You can try explaining why you'd say such a thing. In the end, you'd promise to be nice. Simple."

"The last part isn't happening." I said, "How am I supposed to promise her that I will cozy up with her when there's no way I can see myself doing it?"

"Anna, tell me something." Linda started, "Tell me you've gone out and played with kids your age when you were little."

"With the butlers' kids, yes." I said, "Why?"

"You have a freaking butler?" She demanded.

"Yeah, one for each of us. That makes four in total."

"God, I didn't know you were this rich." She said, "That is all the reason for you to not being aware of people-skills. You must've had a private tutor in your mansion to teach you."

"How do you know?"

She gave me an are-you-for-real type of look.

"Well, you need to start mingling with people from now, you queen," She concluded. "Trust me, it's going to be hard. You start by apologizing to Megan."

Queen. I liked the sound of that when it came out of her mouth.

"You need to come with me." I said, "Please?"

She heaved an irritated sigh. "Ugh, fine. I will anyways need to make sure you don't blurt out anything that will leave you in a much worser position."

"Thank you." A wide smile was plastered on my face. We both walked out of the library, away from peace to go find Megan and apologize.

Finding her was not as easy. The vastness of the campus wasn't helping. We finally found her sitting on a bench outside the cafeteria.

"Is she eating a freaking bun in the middle of the day?" I said and Linda covered my mouth shut.

"She can probably hear you!" She hushed. "We talked about this, didn't we? Now, go out there and do what you have to do. Be nice."

Sighing, I walked out through the door with the warm, mid-August sun hitting my face. I took a nervous glance at Linda through the door's glass section. She wasn't looking at me at all.

Here we go.

I faced Megan who was still sitting cross-legged and chewing on her bun, taking no notice of my presence.

"M-Megan?" I began with a tiny voice. She didn't respond. Maybe she didn't hear me.

"Megan!" I called her out louder than I intended to. I waited for her to reply, but she just took a pause from her chewing, gave me a glance and went back to chewing.

Rage erupted within me. My face started to feel hot. This bitch is ignoring me!

"Listen here, you little bitch." I said, and she finally faced me. I had got her attention – but in all the wrong ways. "I came down here to apologize. Not get-"

"Then apologize." She said in a calm voice. The condescendence in her voice infuriated me even more. "As I'm aware, you don't start off an apology calling someone a bitch."

I would've thrown a real punch at her if it wasn't for Linda to interrupt behind me.

"Anna, someone's calling you. You need to come." She said and I immediately took the cue.

"Who?" I said, walking to her and completely abandoning the start of a feud with Megan.

"What the hell were you doing?!" Linda erupted, as soon as the cafeteria door closed behind us. "It was supposed to be a simple apology!"

"I KNOW!" I came out a little harsher than I intended to. "I'm sorry. It's just that she got to my nerves the second I started to apologize."

"I'm done here." Linda said in exasperation and I felt as if someone had slid a knife in me. "I'm done advising you on Megan. You need to make things right with her on your own."

"I don't think it can ever be right." I said. She didn't comment. "This is gonna make one hell of a year. Come on, let's go back to our dorms."

Linda sighed. "Yes, it will be a hell of a year for sure."
