After attending the orientation, I had nothing else to do.
I wound up back in my dorm room unpacking everything from my suitcase. The storage space in my room was just enough to fit just half my suitcase.
Ugh. Okay, new plan.
I stripped out all the clothes in the wardrobe and segregated them into clothes I'd actually wear and clothes which were (forcefully) suggested by my mom. I put them all in my wardrobe and the rest, I stowed away in the suitcase and pushed it below my bed. I took a step away to admire my work organizing the wardrobe. A slight sense of satisfaction filled me.
Just then, the door to the dorm room opened and a boy with sandy-blonde hair waddled inside with his two big leather suitcases and a duffle bag.
"Hey! Uh, wrong room? 103?" He asked.
"Yeah, this is 103. So, you're my roommate then."
"Yeah. Hi I'm Trevor." He said, trying to get his suitcase to stand with his duffle bag slipping from his arm.
"Here, let me help you." I took his duffle bag and set it on his bed. "I'm Jae Hyun. Nice to meet you."
"Cool." He said walking across to his bed and parking the suitcase right near his bed frame. "Are you from Japan?"
I tilted my head. I didn't know whether I should've been offended or amused at that question.
"I'm from South Korea, bro."
"Oh right! I'm sorry, man." He said as if he'd remembered not all Asian people are Japanese.
"You watch anime, huh?" I asked.
"Yes, yes I do!" His face beamed. "How'd you know?"
"Well, I could tell from the way you-" I hesitated.
"What?"
I shook my head. "Nothing." I reckoned his misunderstanding stemmed from his weak source of information which was not worthy of being called out at.
"So, do you watch anime?" He asked.
"Oh, no way. No, no I don't. Anime is for kids, I feel."
He dropped onto the bed. "Ah you're still at that stage yet. Don't worry, you'll get you there."
"Huh? What stage are you talking about?"
He grinned. "You'll know. Now, I totally missed the orientation and I'm trusting in you to know at least where the showers are."
"Yeah. I've done the campus tour twice. I got you covered."
"Alright." He said and stood up. "Nice to meet you roommate, I gotta start unpack now my suitcase now."
With that, he set to unpack while I watched, sitting down on my bed and planning about the life I was going to lead for the next two years here.
