Chapter Twenty - Maniac

The Pogues are in the car, driving to the warehouse where the lady said they had the money. "So, they keep money out here?" Pope asks as they drive by trees and the occasional abandoned shack.

"That's what she said." JJ replies. He laughs, "Huh, that's what she said."

"Stop." Pope doesn't smile.

"I've never even heard of Resurrection Drive." Devon announces, skeptical as she watches out the window.

"Me either." Sarah agrees.

"That's cause you guys are rich." JJ says.

Devon looks over to him, "You've never heard of it either." JJ doesn't respond so she looks out the window again. "There's nothing but weeds back here."

"All right, just 'cause it's just weeds, doesn't mean it's, like..." He looks to the side, trailing off as a cop appears behind them, their lights on.

"Cops? Out here?" Kie looks back.

"God! Are you kidding me?" JJ raises his voice.

Sarah looks back at the cop car, "what did we do?"

"Why are we getting pulled over?" Devon sighs and rubs her forehead. "Nothing can be easy."

John B pulls over and looks at JJ, "stash that. Did you bring the gun?"

Devon looks at JJ, "he better not have. I told him to leave it back."

JJ smiles sarcastically, "I didn't, okay?"

"Thank God!" Kie says. JJ packs everything into his bag, "how much weed do you have on you bro?" JJ hides the back underneath the seat as the cop walks up to the car.

"Sir-" John B starts but when he looks at the cop there is a gun pointed at his head.

The man holding the gun has a bandana covering half his face and a man bun. "Why don't I go ahead and see them hands in the air, right now?" Devon stiffens at the sight of the gun. "All of y'alls hands up in the air now!" They all do as he says, lifting their hands. "You, out of the car! Let's go!" He points at John B. John B keeps his hands raised as he opens the car door and steps out. "Let them out!" The man continues to shout at John B as he opens the passenger doors.

They all step out of the car as the guy keeps the gun pointed at them, yelling. "We're broke." JJ says as he gets out of the car.

"Shut the hell up!" Barry points the gun closer to JJ.

"All right! Just relax!" JJ says as Devon pulls him back, her hands shaking.

"I'll blow your damn head off! Lay down in the ditch." He commands. "On your goddamn hands and knees! Down! Put your face on the ground! Stay there just like that! Put your head down! Don't let me see you up!" He continues to yell as the group obeys his commands. He keeps the gun pointed at them as he enters the car.

Devon can feel the anger radiating off of JJ as Barry searches the car for the gold. "That old bat shanked us." He says and starts hitting the ground, cursing.

"Wait, no, no, no, no." Devon hears Sarah say. She turns her head to see John B getting up as they beg him not to.

"John B, don't be a hero, man." Pope whispers. John B ignores their protests as he runs into the backseat of the cop car.

Barry finds the gold and exits the car, "Stay just like that unless you want your brains blown out all over this road." He gets into the car and the group watches as John B hits Barry and grabs the gun.

"Guys! I got the gun!" John B yells. JJ is the first to get up, running over and trying to fight Barry. He swings but Barry ducks and punches JJ instead, sending him to the ground. Kie runs over but Barry shoves her back, also sending her to the ground. John B gets out of the car and hits Barry in the back with the gun. He grunts, falling to the ground.
