"Thank you for trusting me." I grit my teeth and try to hide behind a smile, hoping he won't see through.

"Of course, darling." He leans down, planting a kiss on my forehead.

I watch as he takes a seat next to me. The whole room was unnervingly clean and tidy, and so was he, not a strand of dark hair out of place, not a wrinkle on his shirt. He's tall and slender but has proven to be a lot stronger than me.

I can feel my whole body tense further as I notice the plate in front of me, covered with a silver plate dome, polished pristinely enough to see my own dreary reflection.

"There's just one more thing you have to do for me.." He begins, leaning his forearm against the table and his head in his hand. "Then you can go outside."

I bite my tongue, panicked eyes looking between him and the plate. It's no secret that Thomas has eaten human meat before. I remember first meeting him at the restaurant's bar, he caught my attention as the first words he spoke to me were nothing I've ever heard from a man before.

"Look at you, beautiful darling. I could just eat you up."

I could have never imagined that's what he actually intended to do, unfortunately I'm lucky enough that he fell in love instead. If you can call it love.

Is this better than being eaten?

Everything about him encapsulated me on those first few encounters, his charm, his smile, his humour, his expensive taste.. I couldn't help but indulge myself in the compliments and fancy restaurants he took me to.

Then people starting going missing, first Ex partners, then close friends and then family and during my grief he dragged me in, promising protection from the ruthless outside world. When I looked in his deep brown eyes, I was sure I saw the truth, now I know it was all a lie - therefore, I feel no guilt for playing into his feelings.

"And what's that?" I ask, reaching out and holding onto his free hand, no matter how much disgust filled me.

"I've made you a meal." He envelopes my hand, holding me hostage, "And I have a lovely red wine to pair with it."

I look at the table, only now noticing the glass placed next to the dish, the crimson liquid making unwanted images flash through my mind.

He removes the lid, revealing a delicious looking main, "Voilà." He smirks, taking the fork into his hand. "I'm sure you're under no illusion to what I've prepared."

"It looks lovely." It feels like my heart is about to explode out of my chest. "Thank you."

He raises a bite up to my lips, a charred green bean, some mashed potato, and the meat, all further flavoured with the jus from the meat.

I continue smiling and hesitate to open my mouth. The day I learned his secret will forever be burned into my memory, a heat rising to the back of my head every time I think about it. There was no blood, it was frozen and he went into a tangent when he saw me about how fresh meat is always better, as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
