. . .

Cormac's perspective..

It has been a busy morning for everyone. Today, it was a fresh start. Today, we start over. Today.. we start a new life. Bit dramatic, but that's fine.

"Boys, get in the car please." Cormac yells out to his 2 teenage boys, Liam and Austin while putting in the last of their luggage in the back of their car. The rest of it was picked up by the moving truck a few days ago.

He steps back to look at what once was his home, so full of life, and now is just an empty shell of what it once was. But.. with all the bad memories from that house, leaving just seemed like the right choice.

Everything about the house reminded him of her. Abigail.. she even chose the house for them. I can't ruin this morning with bad thoughts. It's gonna be a long trip. He can't help but smile as he looks at his 2 children climbing in the car sleepily with their phones in their hands, and headphones in their ears.

He climbs in the driver's seat and puts on some music. Hip-hop music, to be exact.
"How we doin' back there, boys?" Cormac says, looking in the rearview mirror to see both his boys, half asleep, cellphones in hand.

"Fine, if you would turn down that horrendous music."

He chuckles, one of his hands reaching to turn down the volume. The rest of the drive was quiet. They stopped a few times to eat and go to the bathroom, but otherwise very quiet.

Finally, they arrived at their new home. Boxes piled up in every corner. It was a mess, to say the least. They started to bring in their furniture, taking care of one room at a time.

"Dad, what should we do with this box?"

"Which one?"

Liam hands over the box to Cormac. It was a large box, on the side labeled: "Abigail's Stuff". He stood there for a few moments, staring at the cardboard box in his hands. Abigail.. Tears begin to well up in his eyes.

"Dad? It's okay, I'll just put it in your room."

"I'm sorry Liam. Just.. yeah, put it in my room, please." He quickly wipes away the few tears running down his face with his sleeve, and forces a small smile while handing over the box to Liam, who returns a sympathetic smile before walking away.

. . .

A few hours later..

Everyone is finished unpacking, and while there are a few boxes left outside, they thought it was enough work for one day. The boys are already fast asleep in their rooms, after a long day. Cormac is sitting on his bed, burying his head in his hand.

Today was supposed to be our fresh start.. I can't let this get in my head. After much hesitation, he picks up the box and puts it in the very back of his closet. I'm sorry Abigail. I'm not ready to forget you.. but it's not really a choice.

Tomorrow is his first day at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital, and the boys' first day at their new school. I'd better get some rest.
