Meredith's perspective..
The new interns and residents started today. Meredith always had a love-and-hate relationship with this day. Partly, she loved it because she enjoyed watching them struggle. That sounds so wrong.. But she also hated because all of the questions they ask, every second of every day. I mean, it's a teaching hospital but let me breathe.
However, she had heard about the new third-year resident transferring from Switzerland. He'll be on her service today, so she was quite excited to see his abilities. Meredith walks up to the locker room door, and peers in to see a room filled with light-blue scrubs, interns and residents chatting. One of them noticed Dr. Grey and began shush-ing everyone else.
"I'm looking for Dr. Hayes?" Meredith asks, still searching for someone who matched the description Bailey gave. About this tall.. has an Irish accent.. bald?
"I'm here!" Someone calls out from behind Meredith, out of breath from running there.
"Dr. Hayes." Meredith says, looking him up and down. He definitely fits the description..
"Okay Hayes, we've got quite a day today so let's move." They both walk down the hallways and into one of the patient's rooms.
"It's gonna be okay ma'am, your daughter is getting the best possible care." Cormac smiles reassuringly at the worried mother.
"Okay Hayes, prep her for surgery and page me when you're done. You're scrubbing in." Meredith says, a smile on her face as she walks out the door and towards the nurses' station.
. . .
A few hours later..
They just finished the surgery and are scrubbing out. "You did a good job in there, Hayes." Meredith says, scrubbing her hands.
"Thank you, Dr. Grey."
"It's really none of my business but.. you're a wonderful resident. Why would any hospital let you go?" Meredith asks innocently, ever so slightly tilting her head.
"I wasn't let go. I quit. For a.. fresh start, I guess." Cormac replies with a soft smile.
