❥ This may have been a massive mistake.

I'd never know, because i'd just sold my soul to the devil. The smirk on Vincent's face was one I couldn't escape.

"This is bullshit!" Grayson screamed, but one of Vincent's guards restrained him. My heart ached for him, to reach out to him, but i couldn't.

I had to do this. For him.

"Well, guess the games over," I said, but Vincent was still smirking. "What?"

"Oh, I forgot to mention. The game isn't over, you just gave up, little one." My heart dropped as Vincent spoke. What the hell did he mean? I gave myself to him, and everyone got to go home.

"I'm.. confused," I said. Me and Avery made eye contact, and she looked just as confused as I was.

"I never promised you anything, Evelyn, I just accepted your offer. These lot still have to play, but you just kissed Hawthorne House goodbye."

And that's how I died.

No, not really.

"I..." formulating words was almost too much to ask for at this point.

Avery stood up and yelled, "What the hell?! This ain't right at all—" Eve pushed back in her seat, groaning.

I wanted to fight, but I couldn't.

I'd just made a deal with the devil, and it was all my fault.

Vincent signaled his guards, and I felt them grab me by the arms, pulling me up the stairs towards vincent's house.

I took one look at my dad, and to my surprise, he was looking at me.

Maybe he actually cared?

Nah. Probably not.

Everything was happening so fast, and then, all of a sudden—

"Wait," Avery said, standing up again. The guards turned around, making me turn as well.

"What do you want? I told you to stop talking," Vincent said through a groan. "Sit. Now."

"Just, hear me out?" Avery looked at me and then began speaking. "How about we do something different? A different kind of match?"

Vincent laughed. "What are you proposing?"

Avery sighed. "A game. Me and you. Nobody else. One final game that marks an even bigger deal."

Vincent pondered it for a moment before saying, "What kind of deal could you offer me? Hm?"

"We play a chess game. Just me and you. I win, we all leave and go home. Including Evelyn. But if you win, you can keep her. And i'll owe you a favor."

I was more shocked that my sister was bargaining me to wonder what she plans with a "favor".

Vincent chuckled. "And what favor could you possibly give me?"'

"Assets. Anything. I'm the heiress. I have it all. You say it, once, I give it to you."

Avery didn't go back on promises. I knew that. She kept her word. I couldn't say as much for Vincent. What if he tried to use her?

It was quiet for a moment as we all stared at Vincent. If he said no to this, my life was over. Everything i'd done to this point would have been for nothing.

My heart dropped at the thought of never being able to hold Grayson Davenport Hawthorne ever again. Even though we'd been through so much together, I still wanted to forgive him.
