The gentle breeze carried the scent of freshly bloomed flowers as I stepped into the cozy coffee shop nestled in the heart of Maryland. A rush of nostalgia swept over me when the aroma of freshly brewed coffee intertwined with the scent of budding flowers. Creating a symphony of scents that brought back memories to this very spot.
I spotted my cousin, Issa, sitting by the window, her vibrant smile lighting up the cozy ambiance of the place.
"Kak!" Issa exclaimed, rising to greet me with a warm hug. Her long, raven curls cascaded down her shoulders, matching the vibrant energy in her eyes. "I miss you!"
"It feels like a lifetime since we caught up," I replied, settling into the plush seat opposite her. The sunlight filtering through the window painted golden patterns on the wooden table between us, adding to the serene atmosphere.
The atmosphere around us seemed to echo our joyful reunion as we sipped our coffee and shared more stories. The coffee shop buzzed with the chatter of other patrons, the scent of freshly baked pastries adding to the delightful ambiance of the spring afternoon, blending harmoniously with the soft music playing in the background.
"I'm thrilled about your hotel project, Kak! Papa mentioned you were visiting to explore the location, and I couldn't be happier," Issa exclaimed, her eyes alight with genuine curiosity. "Tell me more about the concept and what inspired it."
I couldn't contain my enthusiasm as I painted a vivid picture of the concept. "It's just like creating a space that feels like a home away from home," I explained, gesturing animatedly. "A place where every guest is welcomed like family, where they can forge meaningful connections with fellow travelers and immerse themselves in authentic experiences."
Issa nodded in appreciation, her expression reflecting genuine interest. "That sounds incredible. How did you come up with the idea?"
"Well, I have always believed that true harmony stems from understanding and acceptance. It's more than just a hotel; it's a reflection of values and a tribute to the warmth and generosity that Jendra and I experienced in our own lives," I added, a sense of pride evident in my voice.
She chuckled.
"You know?" She raised both hands, making movements that made her seem like she personified something shining. "Whenever you talk about your plans with Jendra, your face lights up," Issa remarked with a playful grin. "So, how's everything with Jendra?" Issa inquired, her curiosity evident. "When do you plan to get married?"
A soft smile played on my lips.
"Oh, you never know."
Isaa visibly flinched, her sharp gaze fixed on me. "What do you mean?"
Drawing in a deep breath, I gathered my thoughts. "A lot has happened, and one of the craziest things I did before leaving for Maryland was ask him to end our engagement."
"Kak, don't play around with me!" Issa's eyes widened in disbelief. Her biscuit was forgotten for a moment. "That's not the news I expected to hear."
"It's not a joke," I replied softly, the gravity of my words sinking in as I watched her reaction. I rubbed my arm gently as I glanced at my coffee, its steam still curling delicately in the chilly air. Outside, people hurried past, clutching their jackets tightly against the cold breeze.
"Can you tell me what happened?" Issa's voice held a note of concern.
"It's been a whirlwind, Issa," I admitted, tracing the rim of my coffee cup with a thoughtful finger. "Maybe I'm also the one who's afraid of him leaving me." I shrugged, "You know, right? Me and my anxiety."
