When The Love Made Got Locked Away

Sonic was outside of the waiting room in the hospital along with his much older fox friend. The 13-year-old hero fidgeted with his fingers as he looked at Mr. Prower, who looked way more scared. And it made sense.

Mr. Prower's wife was giving birth right at that moment. A long journey that was finally coming to an end. Sonic still remembers how it started when he met the married couple.

He was fighting good ol' Ro-butt-nik in a forest that supposedly only had forest animals in it. Right when it was getting to the end, he heard a woman scream. Badniks were coming towards her, and she could barely move.

He remembers finishing off Eggman in a flash to then save that woman. A fox lady that didn't look older than 23. He bolted into the badniks and took her out to safety.

The lady, Rosemary, was really grateful. Like, really grateful. She invited him to her and her husband's house to eat something. Her husband, Amadeus, expressed his thanks, too. They said they were in a "delicate position" and that they would forever be in debt with the blue hedgehog.

Of course, Sonic thought this was a little too much, but... it had been a while since anyone has been nice to him (at least when it comes to adults, since he already had two friends who were always by his side).

Sonic has been their friend ever since.

But of course, a sweet trip down memory lane had to be interrupted. A nurse walked up to them and spoke.

"Are you guys here with Mrs. Prower?"

The fox male stood up and nodded.

"Come with me," the nurse said.

Amadeus ran towards the room, while Sonic just froze for a moment, giddy with excitement. All those months of waiting (plus the extra hours at the hospital) were about to pay off. He and Rosemary had talked about this a billion times. Once their pup is born, they'd find out the gender, come up with a name all together, and Sonic would start his duty as a babysitter whenever the adults weren't home. It's gonna be awesome!

The Blue Blur finally decided to move, bolting towards the room Mrs. Prower was supposed to be in.

He got there.

They wouldn't let him in.

"Hey! Lemme in!" His voice was still a little awkward, even if he started speaking again two years ago after being completely silent for one.

The same nurse spoke back. "Sorry, kid. We have a delicate situation inside."

"'Delicate situation' whatever! I wanna meet my new friend!"

The lady sighed. "Just... give Mr. Prower some time, okay? He needs it. If you wait over here, we'll let you in in just a second."

Sonic groaned and sat back down. Waiting was something he always hated.

But if it was for his new little buddy, the wait would be worth it.

Rosemary died.

There was no way to sugarcoat that.

Sonic didn't get to enter the room until a while later, and the news hit him like a billion rocks.

He saw Mr. Prower sitting next to his wife, holding what he assumed was the newborn baby in his arms. He wasn't crying, but the adult was obviously in pain.

Sonic didn't pay attention to much of what the nurse said, but it was something along the lines of Mrs. Prower being way too weak after the baby was born. She was told she wouldn't make it, so she asked to see her husband one last time.
