"I asked you a question, you know." Raven said as she settled in. It was stupid really. She'd been pissed last night and now she was feeling very tractable. This time she blamed her behavior on the haze of sleep still crawling over her brain.

"Yes you did." A pause then a slow inhale and exhale. "But I've decided I'll only give you the answer to that when next we meet."

Raven should have been worried instead she was struggling to halt the smile that threatened to overshadow her face. "I thought I told you we'd have no need to meet ever again."

"No. You said and I quote "... sensible woman with no time for crass people like you". He had meant no insult by his words then but after her reaction, he could see how he'd worded the sentence wrong. "I have to say my crass ass died in sleep last night. I'm feeling very polite at the moment."

Raven couldn't stop the smile that caressed her face this time. "Oh yeah, what killed it?"

Micah smiled as he turned on his side to look at the digital clock on the bedside table. It read 5:08am. "Let's just say, he had to pay the penance for angering a dark haired beauty last night. He left before I could even make him."

Laughing lowly at his words, Raven felt a soothing trickle in her veins. It was a feeling she'd never known but found she quite enjoyed. "I have to say, that makes the dark haired beauty really happy. She might even give him a second chance if he continues to make her laugh."

Micah was thrilled by her challenge. He found himself watching the seconds tick by as he made small talk with Raven over the phone. He was so engrossed in their banter, he nearly forgot the meetings he had for the day.

Raven hadn't had this kind of easy tête-à-tête with a guy in years and it was a blissful reminder that she was still okay and it wasn't her fault her last boyfriend had been such a twisted person. She found herself struggling to contain her laughter throughout their conversation.

When Micah had to leave to prepare for work, she felt bad. She'd forgotten her initial assessment of him when they first met. Dressed in a dark suit, he'd looked like he just closed from the office and that could only mean he was one of the people who worked on the island. She didn't like it but she was not about to become the crass one, nope.

"So, I want an answer." Micah said as he sat up in his bed with his feet hanging off the side. "Will you allow me make it up to you? or..."

Raven didn't say anything for five seconds – a game they'd been furtively playing throughout the call – to put him through a small amount of torture. "I am only agreeing to this because I have to find out how you got my number."

"Ah, ah, so it's a curiosity killed the cat kind of scenario. Well, if that makes it okay for you, I'll accept it. I'll send you the details during the day."

"And I'll accept it on the promise that my curiosity will be satisfied. I can't chance the return of the crass one."

"Ha, ha. You don't have to worry about that. The crass one is dead and buried and I promise your curiosity will be satisfied. Although, I have to tell you, satisfaction will have you coming back. Don't say I didn't warn ya about that."

"Ha, ha, sly with the rhyme. Warning noted. Have a nice day Micah." Raven stood up and stretched her body eager to return to sleep one way or the other. "I have to get back to bed."

"Oh yeah, my bad." Micah wasn't sorry at all. "You have a lovely day Miss dark haired beauty. See ya later."

After ending the call, Raven returned to her bed with a never ending smile on her face and bliss in her heart. Micah was an enigma but maybe... maybe he wasn't all that bad.
