Chapter thirty-eight: Sypher

Drea's eyes scanned the letter as Kevin read it out loud.

Betty let out a shaky breath. "My speech inspired him that stupid speech I wrote."

"So the black hood was at the Jubilee."

"The entire town was there, Kev." Drea sighed.

"We have to get this to my dad. The sypher, yeah, sure, but not the letter. This is just for me. We can't tell anyone about it or Drea's." Betty slipped.

Kevin's head turned to Drea. "Or Drea's." He hissed.

"It's nothing, just a letter talking about what happened in Chicago. I used to do some stuff that wasn't always the right choice to bring people to justice or whatever. But I would never hurt anyone...physically. The black hood said he wrote in hopes to 'persuade' me into bringing - and I quote - bringing the old Drea back."

"Are you sure you didn't physically hurt anyone cause you can be ruthles-"

"No, I did not."

"Ok, whatever. They're both evidence."

"Kevin, if we give these letters to your dad, he will tell my mom and Drea's mom, and they will make damn sure we're nowhere near this." Betty told him.

"Good."

"No." Drea and Betty spoke.

"This is a test he said so himself. What if the start of the test is to see what I do with the letter? Do I share it or not. Am I strong, or am I weak? Am I worthy-"

"He is a physcopath, Betty. You are in high school, not the FBI." Kevin reminded her.

"Isn't it better for people to be focusing on the sypher rather than the letter?" Betty questioned.

Drea began to pace, her thoughts running wild.

"How would that happen?"

Drea smirked, looking at Betty, who had a knowing look on her face. "Come on." Drea grabbed Betty's hand and the sypher.

The next morning, Drea went over to Jughead's. When he opened the door, Drea was surprised at his state. He really wasn't a morning person, but who was.

"Hi hi." Drea said, entering the boy's home.

"Dre. What time is it?"

"7:15. I called last night. You never answered. I would kiss you but morning breath." Drea turned up her face, making Jughead chuckle.

"Coffee?" He offered.

"Already had two cups. Uh, I was on my way to the library to see if I could solve the sypher. I was thinking maybe you'd wanna come with." Drea followed him to the small kitchen area of the trailer.

"Uh, two things. No wonder you're so happy and funny enough, Toni of all people, and I uh, we started working on that yesterday at the red and black." Jughead poured himself some cereal before sitting.
