Chapter forty-three: Move Away
"Is she going to be ok?" Jughead asked the doctor as he stood at the foot of the hospital bed. Her body was covered in bruises and cuts. Her chest moved up and down in a slow rhythm.
"Well, she will need to stay here for another day or two, but she should be free to go home after." The doctor addressed Jughead and Michael, who stood at the foot of the hospital bed.
Michael was extremely worried for his daughter. The doctor said she would be ok, but he couldn't help but worry. Especially about his wife.
Isabella was in a medically induced comma for now.
Drea's eyes fluttered open. Michael quickly ran up to her and held her hand.
"Mom." She whispered, her voice hoarse. Her throat felt very dry.
"S-shes ok, pumpkin." Michael brushed back her hair.
Drea let out a sigh of relief. She then looked around the room, seeing Jughead standing at the foot of the bed.
"Hey." She whispered a small smile on her face. She could see that his eyes were red and puffy from crying.
Jughead slowly walked up to the other side of the bed. Michael looked between the two before deciding that she was in good hands.
He walked out after giving Drea a kiss on the forehead. He made his way to Isabel's room, leaving the two teenagers.
Drea pats the space beside her, inviting him to sit. He sits careful not to hurt her.
"He did this."
"What?" Jughead furrowed his eyebrows.
"After the car crashed into us. I saw him before I passed out. I saw the black hood."
A few days after Drea got out of the hospital, her mother was woken up. Drea sat at her bedside, watching Isabel sleep peacefully. She glanced around at the Iv in her arm, watching as the fluids enter her body.
Drea took hold of her mother's hand, tracing small circles on her palm. She was so lost in it she didn't notice that her mother woke up.
"You used to do that as a kid when you were scared."
Drea looked up to see Isabel smiling at her.
"Did I wake you, Mama?"
"It's ok. I wasn't fully asleep anyway."
Drea continued to draw on her hand when Michael came in. He pulled up a chair beside Drea, careful not to hurt either of them.
"Hi love." He greeted his wife.
"Hi, mi corazón." Isabel smiled.
Drea looked between her parents, who gazed at each other lovingly. She smiled. She hoped that one day, she could find a love like theirs. Maybe it could be her and Jughead. No. No one ever truly lasts when high school is over, so how could they. I mean... did she even love Jughead? Or did she just like him?
"I'm going to get some snacks." She stands before walking out of the hospital room.
"Bring me back something!" Michaeal shouted to her.
"Ok!"
Drea walked through the halls, trying to clear her head. Ever since she came to Riverdale, it was one problem after another. Now, her and her mother got into an accident, possibly caused by the balckhood. Possibly because now she wasn't sure if he was really there or if it was her disoriented mind playing games with her.
She sighed as she got to the vending machine. She got a few snacks for her and her parents and was heading back to the hospital room when she heard her parents talking.
"She won't like that, Isa." Drea heard her father say.
"I know she won't, but I can not let my baby end up in the hospital one more time because of him."
She saw him?
"But what about her friends, Isabel? What about Jughead."
"They can visit or something, but I am not losing another child, Michael!" Isabel exclaims, causing Michael to stop talking.
Drea let out a silent gasps as tears run down her face. She slowly stepped into the room.
"Oh, Mami." She walked in. She placed the snacks on the bedside table before hugging her mother tightly.
Isabel cried into her daughters arms as Michael stood there with tears in his eyes.
"I know you don't want to leave baby but-"
"It's ok." Drea interrupted.
"It's ok. I mean, I can always call my friends here and... I just want us to be ok, mom." She wipes her mother's tears.
Isabel nods.
Later, Drea meets up with Jughead. On the way to his trailer, she thought about a way to tell him that she was leaving, but she couldn't come up with an easy way to do so. She even ended up tearing up a few times.
When she got there, she raised her hand to knock but paused for a moment. Before she could, the door opened.
Jughead stood on the other side.
"What's taking you so long to knock." He chuckled, pulling her inside.
"Uhm, I have to move." She immediately blurted out.
Jughead stared at her.
"I'm sorry, what?"
"I have to move back to Chicago." She tears up. "When mom is cleared to fly."
Jughead took a seat on his couch, Drea sitting next to him. She took hold of his hand tightly.
"So what's that mean for us?"
"I-i down know Juggy."
"I don't wanna lose you." Jughead turned to face her.
"I don't wanna lose you either, Jughead, but....I have to go."
Drea placed a hand on his cheek. He leaned into her touch.
"I just I mean I don't want to just give up on us but this town it's...it's not what's best for me or my parents. They already lost a kid."
Jughead sighed. He knew he couldn't ask her to stay. After everything, he couldn't bear to see her hurt again.
"It's ok, baby." He leaned in pressing a kiss to her forehead, then her cheeks, then pressing a soft kiss to her lips.
Drea kisses back, tears stressing down her face. When they pulled apart, Drea could see Jughead trying not to cry. Jughead wiped her tears, but more flowed.
"I love you."
"I love you too, Stalker."
