Chapter Six

After helping Scott get Liam back off the roof and out of the hospital, Sera got back into the elevator to go back up to her mother's room. Something hadn't felt right the first time and she wasn't about to leave her mom when something might be wrong. She had, of course, told Scott she'd meet him at his house in a few hours to figure out what to do about Liam. Oh yeah, Sera's pretty pissed about that. She had wanted to keep Liam out of the world she so desperately wished to escape but now there was no way for her to leave either.

She walked into the hallway and was immediately stopped by police officers milling around, including the sheriff, Sera sighed. This must be about the windigo. Sera wasn't even entirely sure what a windigo was but it was terrifying to say the least. She ignored all of the officers and started walking towards her mother's room, as far as they were concerned she had nothing to do with that kids death, the man with no mouth was.

Sera attempted to walk into her mother's room but one of the officers stopped her.

"You're not allowed in there. This room is under current investigation." The man says and Sera glares at him.

"My mother has nothing to do with whatever the hell happened here tonight." Just as those words leave her mouth the door to her mother's room opens and Sera feels as if her whole world stops. There in her hospital bed her mother lays in a pool of her own blood, dead. "No." Sera says shaking her head and backing away from the officer, from that room. "No. That's not true. She's not dead she can't be." The officer frowns at her.

"I'm sorry miss. But your mother is dead." Sera shakes her head more violently as tears stream down her face. She falls to the ground and repeated slams her fist into the ground beneath her. The world around her blurs and something in her snaps. Her head snaps up to look at the officer and he takes a few steps back, surprised. Sera smiles wickedly at his fear and all of a sudden sheriff Stilinski is kneeling down in front of her. Suddenly it's as if Sera is thrown back into her body, like something else shoved its way into control of her and then immediately gave it back.

"Sera? Why don't we go talk somewhere." Stilinski asks and Sera nods blinking rapidly trying to be rid of whatever just happened to her. He helps her stand up and guides her further down the hall way into an empty room. "Is everything okay?" Sera looks at him confused and he shakes his head. "I'm sorry. Let me be more specific. Since when do your eyes change a different color?"

"They don't?" Sera says confused, raising a hand to eyes. "They're just boring brown." Stilinski shakes his head.

"They changed like Scott's. Only it looked like fire was burning in your eyes." Sera suddenly realizes what happened. When her mother died, the phoenix took full control of her.

"I'm the phoenix now..." she whispers.

"What?"

"The phoenix. Deaton figured out what I am. It basically means I have fire based powers." Sera explains. Stilinski runs a hand over his face and looks back at the girl.

"It never ends does it?" He asks and Sera shakes her head.

"Unfortunately no, it doesn't." Sera says and looks at her feet. "What happened?" The sheriff immediately knew what the girl was talking about and sighed.

"Your mother was... murdered. It looks like the murder weapon was an ax but we won't know for sure until the autopsy comes back."

"It was." Sera says quietly. "I watched him kill another supernatural creature too." She says looking up.

"The boy on the roof. Sean." Stilinski says and Sera nods. He sighs. "Why don't you go home and I'll figure this out, okay?"

"What about?-"

"I'll give you a few days before you have to move in with Melissa. She told me that was what your mom wanted?" Sera nods, eyes watering again.

"Thank you."

"Hey, come here kid." He brings her into a hug and she starts crying all over again. "If you need anything you call me okay?" Sera nods into his shoulder and he releases her from the hug. "Try and get some sleep tonight, okay?" Sera nods and walk out of the room. She wipes her eyes as she steps into the elevator.
