Echos of laughter

As the phone call ended, Dream realized he didn't even get the stranger's name. He sighed as Patches meowed continuously, the tiles of his flooring only making the headache he had grow with the echos. He silently promised to get the man's name as he stared at the screensaver of he and his sister.

Dream sat on his couch, Patches curling up next to him. He opened up Amazon prime, selecting the first movie that seemed interesting, selecting Titanic.

The sun began to set as the movie reached around an hour and a half, and Patches was already asleep. Dream decided to pause the movie and finish tomorrow, when Patches would be awake (probably).

He stood up, careful to not wake the sleeping cat. As quiet as possibly, he walked to his room, phone in hand, wanting to call the man but hesitating, what if the man didn't want to speak to him? Dream paused, but shook away those thoughts, dialing the number that had called him earlier that day.

--------

George's phone rang once more, perhaps it was his family asking if he was settled in. As he checked, he recognized it as the one he had called earlier. He picked up the call almost immediately, for reasons he didn't know. Maybe it was happiness that another person had wanted to speak to him, despite not knowing anyone in Florida.

"Hello!" George called out enthusiastically.

Dream laughed at his enthusiasm, "Hello, person!'" he replied, matching George's enthusiasm. His laugh echoed throughout the empty halls.

George sighed with a smile, "Sorry. Forgot you don't even know my name. I'm George."

"It's nice to finally know your name, George," Dream smiled.

George laughed, it felt unnatural hearing someone he doesn't know the face of saying his name, "So, Dream, why'd you call?"

A shrug was audible in Dream's voice, "I dunno, Patches fell asleep, and I got bored."

George laughed, "Sounds like a very productive movie night, eh? What movie did you two watch anyways?"

Dream smiled, relieved that someone was interested in something not many people he knew would be interested in. "We watched Titanic."

"Ooo, fun choice! A classic," George laughed.

Dream smiled, "Yeah, but she fell asleep only halfway through."

"Aww, bummer. Anyway, while you and Patches were busy, I collected trinkets from my house, stuff I thought you'd like," George added.

"Ooo, fun! I love trinkets!" Dream exclaimed.

"I know you do, so I gathered quite a collection," George responded.

---------

After around an hour of talking, both Dream and George had gotten tired.

George yawned, "Goodness, I'm exhausted."

"Then go to bed, silly," Dream laughed.

"But I don't want to just abandon you!" George remarked.

"It's alright, I'm tired too," Dream assured him. "Goodnight."
