Tmnt 2012 / no ships

April would never consider what her life would become, or, at least not to this extent. She'd thought it'd be difficult, of course, but not like this. She never thought that she'd be in the situations she had only heard about in her fantasy books, the ones where the main character is something different or unnatural to the people around her. She never considered that could be her.

Clutching her shaking hand to her shirt, her nails chipped from her anxiously biting them, uneven. She had a multitude of scars layering throughout her hand. She wondered if her cuticles could be scarred as well.

It is not just her skin that is bruised and blemished.

Her mind feels like a parasitic fungus, and maybe a year ago, that would've been an unbearable comparison, but then she would've been reassured because it was just a metaphor. Now, she is not so sure.

Finding out she was some genetic experiment to overthrow the human race..and the aliens who created her being brains did not reassure her. Her hand began to trace over her chin, up to her cheek which was dotted with freckles her dad used to say were land-struck stars, and then down to her pink, pursed lips.

She opened her mouth, placing her pinky finger onto her tongue and feeling the texture. She ran it through the middle and found relief in its connection. It was not pronged like a snake, or, what she was more scared about..an alien.

Maybe if she was not an alien in the most, she wouldn't be one in her purpose.

She ran the finger over her teeth, and found them straight. She feels for canines sharper than a sharpened knife, but only finds the lack of them. Relief spreads through her, as if she thought that if she succumbed to some hive brain mindset, at least she could not tear and rip at flesh. At least the revolting thought of cannibalism could not be entertained.

She removes her finger, disregarding the saliva that makes a line out of it. Her eyes are trained on it as a droplet becomes a spit string and cascades down her finger. She watches it drop down onto her bed sheets.

As it does, she wipes her finger.

As she finished wiping her finger, she closed her eyes.

As she closed her eyes, she found a dreamlike world where she did not have an immunity to mutagen.

A world where she was not an amalgamation of different things that formed a human.

But, a human.

A human girl named April O' Neil, who goes to high-school, has a dad, and recently had her braces removed.

A human girl that when mutagen touched her pinky finger like her saliva did, she would become something new.
