The three kingdoms occupied the entire Korean Peninsula and about half of Manchuria, located in today's China and Russia. The kingdoms of Baekje and Silla dominated the southern part of the Korean Peninsula and Tamna (Jeju Island), while Goguryeo controlled the Liaodong Peninsula, Manchuria, and the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. Baekje and Goguryeo share a founding myth that likely originates from Buyeo, the ancient kingdom that gave rise to the founding of Goguryeo.

In ancient times, the king of North Buyeo named Haeburu went to East Buyeo to evacuate himself and after Haeburu died, Geumwa rose to become king in the Kingdom of East Buyeo. At that time, Geumwa went south of Mount Taebek and met a woman in Ubalsu. The woman introduced herself to Geumwa.

"I am the daughter of the water god Habaek named Yuhwa. One day, several of my younger siblings and I went to play outside the water. At that time, a man approached me and introduced himself as the son of the sky god named Haemosu. He brought I went to his house on the banks of the Yalu River. I finally married him. However, my parents scolded me because I married without their blessing, so they threw me here."

"Then take your luggage and go follow me."

Geumwa took the woman to his palace. However, there was always a bright light that followed Yuhwa. Geumwa found it very strange and asked Yuhwa.

"Why is there a light always following you?"

"I don't know the reason either."

"Other people will find it strange, so please stay in that room for a while."

Yuhwa followed Geumwa's orders and lived in a secluded room in the palace. However, the light continued to follow Yuhwa. Not long after that she became pregnant and gave birth to a large egg. King Geumwa who knew about this spoke to his subordinates with an unhappy face.

"How can a human give birth to an egg? Throw the egg to a dog or a pig!"

King Geumwa's subordinates followed orders and threw the egg onto the road. However, the cows and horses that walked avoided the eggs. Soon, large birds and wild animals came and hatched the eggs.

"What? Wild animals are incubating the egg? How strange. Then, smash the egg with an axe!"

Some of the king's subordinates tried to destroy the egg. However, the egg did not crack at all. With no choice, King Geumwa returned the egg to Yuhwa. Yuhwa covered the egg with a cloth and placed it in a warm place. Not long after, the egg cracked and a strong boy with a very intelligent looking face was born from the egg.

After the age of seven, the child began making his own arrows and bows and hunting. The boy's archery skills were extraordinary, so that of the 100 arrows he shot, 100 of them hit the target. At that time, skilled archers in the East Buyeo Kingdom were called 'Jumong' so the child was called Jumong. Geumhwa also had 7 princes but no one could surpass Jumong's abilities.

One day, the first prince named Daeso said to King Geumwa.

"Your Majesty, Jumong was born from an egg so we can't call him human. If we don't get rid of him from the start, I'm afraid he could become a threat to our country."

"You are the one who will become king. Is it right for you to hate and be jealous of your younger brother?" King Geumwa scolded his son. However, Daeso continues to talk to the other princes about his desire to get rid of Jumong. King Geumwa had no other choice and summoned Jumong.
