A wave of regret and longing crashed over Jessica as she sat in the dimly lit apartment, thoughts of Rick consuming her. With trembling hands, she reached for her phone, her heart pounding with a mixture of hope and dread as she dialed his number. Each ring felt like an eternity, but it went straight to voicemail. Her voice cracked with emotion as she left message after message, her words desperate and raw.

"Rick, it's me," she began, trying to steady her voice despite the turmoil inside. "I know things are messed up between us, but... God, Rick, the world is ending. Please call me back. I need you. I'm sorry for everything. I love you."She sent text after text, each one a plea for him to respond, to let her know he was okay. "Rick, please answer." "Are you okay? I'm worried sick." "We need to talk. Please." "I don't want to face this alone."

Hours dragged by with agonizing slowness, and still, there was no response. Jessica's worry twisted into panic as she tried calling Rick's friends, his family—anyone who might have heard from him. But no one knew where he was.

The chaos of the streets outside, once distant and irrelevant, now mirrored the turmoil in her heart as news of the impending asteroid spread.

But amidst the impending catastrophe, Jessica's world had shrunk to a single, desperate focus: finding Rick. The enormity of their personal issues now paled in comparison to the urgent need to reconcile, to face whatever came next together.

She paced the apartment, her mind racing with scenarios, praying for the sound of Rick's voice, for some sign that he was safe and that they still had a chance to make things right.

The streets outside were descending into mayhem as the news spread, but Jessica couldn't bring herself to care. Her world had narrowed to one singular focus: finding Rick.
