3:49 a.m.
The lights in the building had brightened from darkness to a warm orange, the way it always does at night. The soft, sunset-like atmosphere was a stark contrast to everything that actually happens in those late hours. Everyone goes to sleep, and no one knows who will end up staying in that unconscious state forever.
The quiet was eerie, almost unreal. A drop of water leaking from a faucet could be heard somewhere far, and the soft footsteps echoing in the halls.
There on the ground, just a few meters away from the staircase, lay Somi, not being able to go far before she collapsed since everyone was so distracted by the whole Kyungjun and Seungbin ordeal.
Crouching down next to her body, a hand brushed a strand of hair to the side of her face, revealing her peaceful expression.
"You bitch," the voice whispered to her, though she could not hear. "You're better off dead. I can't believe I waited this long."
The hand clutching the blade was raised, ready to strike.
"Rot in hell."
The first splutter of blood hit the person's blazer. The knife sunk in deep, coating Somi's white shirt in a murky dark red. Yanking the knife out, the person swung again, the blade going right into Somi's abdomen, the sound of tissue squelching underneath. The killer couldn't help but laugh at Somi's state, as the knife came down to repeatedly stab Somi, ending up in several wounds on her body, some crisscrossing each other, long strokes of blood visible from under her torn shirt. The killer raised the hand clutching the weapon again, but was stopped as another person took her wrist.
"I think that's enough," Yoonseo muttered, unable to look at Somi's decayed body, a pool of dark blood forming under her.
"That's not nearly enough," Mina seethed, yanking her hand away from Yoonseo. "I thought you hated her too. Why are you stopping me?"
Yoonseo went silent, and stood up with a lump in her throat, suddenly feeling sick from the metallic smell hanging in the air. Jungwon stood against the wall, Heo Yool right next to her.
"This is what we have to do, Yoonseo. As mafia. Do you want to survive?", Yool approached, crouching next to Yoonseo, a hand on her back. She flinched away, and he lowered his hand. Yoonseo wanted to scream, hit something, anything, but she stayed put, trying to keep her emotions in check.
But they were bound to overflow at some point.
"You know how Somi is," Mina said coolly. "She suspected me of being mafia earlier. Her manipulative ass could've easily turned everyone against me. And we already lost two of us."
"She's right," Yool said reassuringly. "There might only be a few of them left, but don't forget about the Doctor. He or she is still alive, and haven't used their Skill yet."
Yool took Somi's phone from her pocket, checking if it would turn on. When the screen stayed black, he put it in his pocket.
"Yeah. She's dead."
"Did she look alive to you?", Mina said, bewildered.
"Just wanted to make sure," he raised his hands in mock surrender.
Because that's all it was, a big, massive joke, something to play around with. People's lives. Their classmates' lives. Yoonseo couldn't help the slight anger rising up in her.
"We'll survive, and we'll get out of here, kay?", Yool told Yoonseo in the softest voice he could muster. Yoonseo was tempted to tell him to take his soft voice and shove it, but bit back her tongue. Killing people wasn't her ideal thing, but she knew all they wanted to do was get out, just like everyone else.
