Questioning Morals

The history class was slow, which in hindsight I needed that. However, this subject was the 17th century where the Salem witch trials took place and the Puritans. Only a matter of time before he called on me or someone else to drone on about his bullshit morals.

"As we transition towards people's morals and understanding, this was the start of the trying and murders of dozen witches or accused witches. If you ask me, we should keep that up! Seemed to be a logical system." Mr. Clanton added which made my skin crawl with the majority of the class agreeing to the persecution except one student who stood up. She had a couple piercings on her eye brows, lips, and ears. Her hair was dark red with a pixie cut. Her clothing was a mismatched array of blacks and rainbow. She didn't care what other people said to her but then again, she looked new meaning she didn't have the life sucked out of her...yet. Give it time, this place will do that to her.

"You really want a system of innocent people, witches or not to be slaughtered mercilessly! What is wrong with you!" Challenging as her eyebrows moved up, anger filling into her bones each. I smiled a little, hoping that maybe I found an ally and not feel so lonely in this place. Mr. Clanton scoffed as he looked through the attendance sheet, skimming his finger through the page. Her stance not changing as he found her name on the sheet and look at her, unwavering.

"Ahh, Ms. Wright. Always one for argument, might've been why you were kicked out of your old school." He scoffed with other kids oohing. She gripped the desk so hard I thought it was going to break. He moved around his desk to face her like they were in a shootout in an old western movie and only one was going to make it out alive.

"As we learn in the 17th century, townspeople often put witches, often women on trials for acts of witchcraft and class, since we have our advocate for those disgusting creatures. Ms. Wright, what was one of the ways they were tortured?" He sneered as my heart raced, beating at what was an abnormal rate. Sweat pouring off of me as she was angry at this point, honing it in. She had the best poker face, adjusting her hands, shaking them off and then looking at him again.

"First off, those "creatures" aren't disgusting, they are just like mortals, wizards, werewolves, everyone other being that lives on earth. Second, Salem, Connecticut discriminated against people they assumed were witches by throwing them in water. If they float, they were considered a witch but if they didn't they were innocent and died for no reason. Now, that system isn't justice and-" She answered, near tears with Mr. Clanton sighing, knowing he'd been outmatched.

"Alright enough, Ms. Wright. That is correct." Subtly saying as she sat down, wiping any upcoming tears she had. I wanted to comfort her but she didn't seem like the person who needed it. It was a hard pill to swallow, Mr. Clanton suddenly turned his attention to me with my powers coming out of me slightly by turning my veins and body temperature colder than I should've been. Shivering with Mr. Clanton looking evily at me.

"Ms. Grebyback who were two of the witches that were persecuted and also give a two minute argument of how their persecutions were justified." Quickly saying with my anger spewing through my body. I held back tears of rage as I stood up to answer his brainwashing questions and I could easily blend in but...I couldn't. After what happened to Melanie and could happen to me, I couldn't.

"Mr. Clanton, where are you getting at? I mean we just saw a student get taken away by the wizard guards and now you're trying to justify that witches are evil. What is wrong with you? What is wrong with all of you!" Yelling with Mr. Clanton getting visibly annoyed with each word coming out of my mouth. My breathing became unsteady as the pale feeling was coming back to me.
