As soon as we entered the academy, we were greeted by Soren, Ella, and Liam, who were also some of Arlo's childhood friends. Although, Ella and Liam had moved in to Mistvale, a bit later than Soren and Luna, they were also just as good friends of Arlo's as the other two. Overall, this party of five was always seen together.
"At least, I don't have to stay a loner in this life.", I thought to myself as I chuckled slightly.
Some time later, class started. Today was magic theory class. The professor came in and introduced herself. "Good morning, students. Welcome to magic theory, my name is Isla Frostwood, and I look forward to teaching you all!", she said. Everyone started whispering, and the class became quite noisy. She looked to be at least about nineteen years old, no more than that. I was surprised as I'd never seen a teacher that young, perhaps the other teachers will have something special to show as well, after all, this isn't the world I'm used to. I asked Luna, "Why's everyone talking about her last name?", to which, Luna just stared at me with her head tilted, wearing a perplexed expression on her face. "Because that means she's a noble of the Frostwood family? Did you not know that?", she replied. "Ah no, obviously I did, it was supposed to be a joke." I replied. It really wasn't a joke, but how else was I supposed to know?
"Arlo.", the voice said, suddenly. "Are you even trying to fit in? You are not Arthur anymore. You are originally from this world. You were born and raised here."
"What am I supposed to do, though? How am I supposed to know all of this beforehand?!", I whispered as quietly as I could.
"Just make it through today. I'll do something about it.", the voice replied. I nodded.
"Alright class, quiet down.", Miss Isla said, as she began explaining magic, from scratch. Time flew by. Today's class was quite interesting to me, as I was used to being taught subjects like mathematics and science, which sometimes had no physical implications whatsoever. However, today was different. It felt quite surreal. I couldn't wait to actually learn magic and utilize it. As the class ended, I realized, it had only been an hour. As I learnt from Luna, the duration of school varied everyday. Somedays, we had to learn about magic theoretically, somedays we had to practice magic in combat. Thinking about it, this system sounded really efficient.
As soon as academy was over, I said to my friends, "Let us meet here tomorrow morning at seven, an hour before class.", and before any of them had a chance to ask why, we parted ways. I left with Luna, while the rest watched me drag her away.
"What was that?", Luna asked, with a droll look. "You'll find out, Luna.", I replied. Soon, I reached home. Before going in, I realized I'd be meeting my parents in this world. I was hesitant at first, but I opened the door and went in. "Welcome back Arlo!", said my mother.
"Hello mother...", I replied in an unenthusiastic tone, with my head bowed down. "So? How was your first day at the academy?", she asked. "It was... nice.", I replied. I couldn't face her. I knew this was not my real mother. Within a second or two, however, I made peace with the fact that there was no way for me to return to my world as of now. Here, she IS my real mother. In a short span of time, I convinced myself to make the best out of what I was given possession of. I looked up, and said, "It was great, mom...!", and as I looked up, I realized that she looked just like my mom. My eyes became watery, although I don't think it was noticeable.
"That's more like my son!", she replied as she gave me a cozy smile portrayed a sense of peace and closure. As I made my way into the house, I noticed that this world's architecture seemed to be from around the eighteenth to nineteenth century of my world. My house was made of basic wood, cobblestone, and thatch. It looked as though cement had not been introduced in this world yet, but I could also observe the use of some predecessors of cement like the Roman and the lime mortar cement.
"Perhaps, my habit of taking interest in quizzically random subjects as a hobby will be of use in this world!", I thought to myself. The voice guided me to my room. But, instead of going inside, I went to my mother, and told her I was going outside for a while to practice magic. To this, she replied, "Please go, this might be the first time you're taking interest in a subject taught at school, so I won't be interfering.", and she chuckled.
I went into the woods surrounding Mistvale, and chose a tree to sit under. There, I tried to recollect what Miss Isla taught us today.
"This world, is made of Azure. Azure is the building block of everything. The atmosphere as well as the earth, contain it. To absorb Azure, in its raw form, one must have come in contact with it before, and should also have a heart and body which can uphold the baptistic energy contained within Azure.", after this, she handed all of us two small crystal octahedrons. These crystals seemed to emit some kind of energy. Miss Isla then explained, "Since none of you have come in contact with Azure before, it is not possible for any of you to absorb Azure from the atmosphere directly. However, those Azurites are a different story!"
As I took the Azurite crystals out of my pocket, I placed one in each of my hands, and started absorbing them...
