Kyle was there, pacing. He was the only thing she could focus on. She couldn't see the tries, the water of the lake... He was the only thing she could watch.

-Reine, you're okay? Oh, I was so scared when I heard...

He walked towards her, a smile on his lips. But suddenly, Irene felt disgusted. It seemed to her that this smile, this whole comforting aura was just a mask... she wanted to scream, to ask him why, but words stayed trapped in her mind. Her heart was bleeding, but she couldn't cry... Kyle was still walking to hug her, and there, she fell. Her body had no more strength, nor had her mind.

Kyle ran at her and hugged her before she touched the ground. She tried to escape him. He noticed that, and his eyes filled with pain, as his voice began:

-Reine, what's off... I won't hurt you, you know that...

-I don't know anything anymore...

That hit him worse than a sword. That was what he had always feared. He stammered, with no conviction in his shocked voice:

-Hey, you know me... I'm here...

She looked up at him, her eyes filled with sorrow. He felt that she was doubting. And she also felt that she sad of doubting. And it hurt him. Deeper than any possible injury he ever had.

He stepped back. They both got up. The rain was starting to fell. Kyle couldn't tell if Irene's face was flooded with tears or drips. He was the first one to talk:

-What have you heard that made you doubt that much?

-You're dealing again?

Her voice was hoarse. It broke Kyle's heart. He knew this moment would have come, but he wasn't ready to face the pain he was seeing in his first love's eyes. Because that was Irene had been for him. The first person ever, except his mom, that he had loved.

He stayed there, in shock. How do you know? He didn't even care enough about that to ask her.

Irene looked up at him, her eyes in his. "Please tell me something"... That's why her glaze was begging Kyle for. Destroyed by his silence, she kept on:

-Did you really kill Sharleen's brother?

Kyle understood at her voice that she already knew the truth.

-There's a million of things I should have told you, Reine... I...

This upset Irene even more than she already was. How could he say such a banality?!

-Yeah, you should have.

Her voice was half sad, half bitter.

-Irene, I need you to trust me...

Those words hit her as an insult.

-It's what I've been doing for years!! Even when you were not here, I kept on trusting you, on trusting my brother!!

-So just keep on!!! I beg you...

-Kyle, I can't!!! I... I just... I'm trying but... I can't... My brain is just telling me it would be madness to just...

-So what, you're going to tell the police?

His voice had gotten mocking to hide his sadness.

-I don't know... I just... just tell me...

Irene was bewildered. What kind of question was that? In her normal sate, she would have perceived the irony hiding some sadness of the sentence. But she definitively wasn't in her normal state.
