Peace and Quiet

For the first time in what was likely hundreds of thousands of years, Failsafe was able to get some peace and quiet.

At least, some form of it.

The AI was absolutely still a part of the Exodus Black wreckage, and if she decided to hone in on the feeling, she could focus on the vandals prying her apart, or the oddly behaving Vex hacking her mainframe.

Right now, though, none of that mattered.

Failsafe took in the calming atmosphere of the HELM. Sure, it was constantly bustling with Guardians and important figures, but there was some comfort in that, too. She has spent the last seven years of her existence constantly waiting for more news from the Guardians, the warfront, but never received anything. While she couldn't really blame them-after all, the Exodus Black had little use to the city-it still hurt.

The HELM was an odd, but welcome, change of pace for the AI. She had been trained to navigate a ship, so the internal systems were quite familiar to her. Being away from Nessus was a strange feeling, but the constant presence of Guardians made it feel more normal. Besides, she certainly wasn't complaining about getting away from the Vex.

At this moment, though, the HELM was quiet with inactivity.

Failsafe, in her moment of downtime, found herself thinking about that quiet. Not just in the HELM, of course, but all across the solar system.

The Witness was dead, killed by an army of Guardians. While Failsafe hadn't been present for much of the war-in fact, she'd only heard of Guardians wielding darkness mere days prior-she felt an odd attachment to the conflict.

The AI was an important player in the Red War, and the Traveler's awakening had been the catalyst for much of what had happened in the years since, she had learned.

Now, the universe, which had been active with the hum of war, was silent. For an AI, even one with sentience, it was a strange feeling.

Lost in these digital thoughts, Failsafe was startled when the sudden sound of a transmat rang out through the HELM. The AI stifled a yelp and turned her attention to whoever had entered the ship.

Before her was a figure she was very familiar with, a Guardian, a titan: The hero of the Red War, Young Wolf, Champion, Disciple-Slayer, savior of the last city. The woman who slew the Witness. Failsafe's first friend in over a hundred thousand years; Siobhan-12, her captain.

Joy wasn't what crossed Failsafe's mind, though. She would have called the feeling frustration, rather than elation.

What Failsafe wanted to say to her captain was something along the lines of "Why did you abandon me?", but instead, her politeness filter kicked in.

"Hello, captain!" The AI felt like she was being choked.

The Guardian nodded, "Hello, Failsafe."

She had always known her captain as the quiet type, preferring only to speak when the situation called for it. Compared to some of the other titans Failsafe knew, Siobhan was shockingly subdued. Her "punch first, talk second" attitude had carried her through war after war, so even though the talkative AI did not agree with the method, she couldn't argue against its effectiveness.

Failsafe had missed her captain dearly over the years since the Cayde-unit's death. While Siobhan would occasionally stop in during the holidays to give her cookies, the two hadn't spoken in a long time. It had led to several different, very new, feelings to boil up inside of the AI.

The first was embarrassment. Had she done something wrong? Were she and her beloved captain now sworn enemies? Would they have to fight to the death? Despite all of the Exodus Black's weaponry, Failsafe knew Siobhan would win that fight.
