001. Pandemonium.
"Do you always talk so much?"
✵
“You’re sure there's no other place we could go? I mean, here it seems a bit crowded…” Sophie Fray had always hated confusion and crowded places. She often found herself having panic attacks during the events, so she always made a try to escape before she could get to have it.
Despite this ‘awful’ trait of herself —how she liked to describe it— she never prevented herself from saying yes to a party night with her family. Even though she'd love to stay home, preferably reading or watching a rom-com movie, she didn't want to miss a fun night with two of the few people she cared about the most.
That was why, despite everything and despite her anxiety, she was standing in line outside of a club, the Pandemonium, with her sister Clary and their nerdy best friend Simon.
“Come on, Soph, we're almost inside.” Simon said, excited, and leaned forward to take a look at the top of the line, where the bouncer was making other guys from every age go inside. It was a Sunday of midSummer, of course it wouldn't be easy to get into an all-ages club without a bit of resistance, due to many people wanting to enter, too.
“Simon's right,” Clary said, turning to the guy with a smile on her face, which he returned as he fixed his glasses on top of his nose. Sophie automatically did the same movement. “And once we're inside, if you don't want to stay, you can tell us and we'll go back home.” Her sister smiled at her, reassuring, which made the brunette sigh in resignation. “Fine.”
They took a few steps forward, as the line was getting smaller and smaller overtime, until they found themselves stuck due to a guy who the bouncer didn't want to make go in because he had a wooden beam in his hands.
“You've got to be kidding me,” the bouncer said, crossing his arms over his chest. From what Sophie could see from behind, he looked annoyed and had a frowned look on his face. Perhaps he was thinking he wasn't paid enough to deal with stupid teenagers like that.
“Aw, come on.” The kid said, leaning his face to the side as he talked. “It's part of my costume.”
“Which is what?”
Sophie paid enough attention to the guy to agree he was good-looking and didn't seem like the type of person who had bad intentions. Sure, he seemed a bit dumb, and she wouldn't probably want to talk to him, but apart from this he seemed fine.
He had electric blue dyed hair that would be good to be having in a crowded room, as your friends would always know where you are. They could work as signage, Sophie thought. Maybe I should dye my hair electric blue.
The thought of it made Sophie's mouth take the shape of a shy smile, which Simon didn't fail to notice. “Can't believe that both of you find him cute.” He said, and shook his head in disbelief.
Sophie quickly turned to him with an accusing look in her eyes. Then, she turned to look at the redhead standing next to her, who was still staring at the guy —who just got accepted in the club after affirming he was dressed as a vampire hunter— not uttering a single word.
She didn't miss the amount of resignation that could be heard in Simon's voice as he talked, and she couldn't stop herself from wondering how much more time would his friend waste by being in love with Clary, who visibly saw him only as a friend, or how much time would it take to Clary to notice their best friend was in love with her.
